Disturbed Guitarist & Drummer Announce New Side Project

Dan Donegan, guitarist for multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated hard rock band Disturbed, has unveiled his new project, Fight or Flight. Fight or Flight will release their debut album, A Life by Design? on July 23rd via Warner Bros. Records. The first single, "First of the Last" will be hits radio May 21st.

"During our hiatus from Disturbed, the separation anxiety from the fans came rather quickly," explains Donegan. He began writing songs on his own, and last year connected with Dan Chandler, front man for the band Evan's Blue, about a possible collaboration. The two emailed each other songs back and forth and met in person whenever Chandler was in Donegan's hometown of Chicago. When they had enough material to record, Donegan turned to his "Disturbed brother of over twenty years," drummer Mike Wengren and the three entered the studio.

The result is a collection of hypnotic and hard-hitting songs fortified by Donegan's trademark riffing and Chandler's melodic sensibility. Ra's Sean Corcoran on bass and backing vocals, and Jeremy Jayson on guitar and backing vocals complete Fight of Flight's lineup.

"This is more hard rock," Donegan affirms. "It's got edgy moments, but there's more melody across the board. We had the chance to experiment as well. There are acoustic guitars and some electronics even. It's different all around." The stomping first single "First of the Last" is an energetic anthem that's meant to be cranked as loudly as possible. "It's one of the more driving tracks on the record, and it's got my signature style," Donegan explains. "Lyrically, it's more cryptic. Dan and I spent a lot of time discussing conspiracy theories, and those conversations inspired the song."

Atlas Genius Performs On "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon"

Atlas Genius will celebrate the February 19th release of its debut album, When It Was Now (Warner Bros. Records), with an appearance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon." The band will perform the album's first single, "Trojans," which has sold more than 200,000 and ranks in the Top 5 at Modern Rock radio and Top 10 at the Triple A format.

On their new track "If So," Atlas Genius groove with dream-like guitar licks, shifty hi-hats and a meaty bass backbone," said Rolling Stone.

"The Australian brothers deliver dance rock with smart melodic swagger," said Entertainment Weekly, naming Atlas Genius as one of "15 New Stars We Love." The band was also tipped as one to watch in 2013 by NYLON and Neon Gold.

Atlas Genius' Keith and Michael Jeffery wrote, recorded and produced When It Was Now at a studio they built in their hometown of Adelaide, Australia. The album captures Atlas Genius's singular combination of sophisticated musicality and warm, wistful spirit. Infused with a classic sensibility, each of the songs would fit seamlessly if somehow slipped into a long-treasured mixtape.

The band will kick off a sold-out tour with Imagine Dragons this Friday, February 8th, at The Marquee in Tempe, AZ. On February 20th, Atlas Genius will play a record release show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY and appear at SXSW on March 13th (KCRW's Official SXSW nighttime showcase) and 14th.  Tickets just went on sale for Atlas Genius' first North American headline tour, which launches on April 25th at Antone's in Austin, TX. West End Motel (Mastodon Side-Project) New Album Out Now

Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds is receiving praise for his side project West End Motel's newest release Only Time Can Tell, out now on Warner Bros/ADA. The album is streaming in its entirety at AOL Spinner in addition to PASTE Magazine, who lauds its "acoustic-driven, country-twinged tracks." Similarly, MTV declares it "hypnotizing," praising the "brittle guitars and hushed, husky vocals," while Alternative Press states, "rockabilly and surf rock with strong flavors of Stax and Motown soul prevail, yet a smorgasbord of disparate influences also insinuate their way into this mix, ensuring no two songs are alike."

The 8-song set is now available to purchase on iTunes. Rolling Stone is streaming the album's first single "Burn It Down," praising its "brightly shout-out-loud vocals, warm and soulful textures, swooning funk melodies and a breezy beat that's downright feel-good music."

West End Motel
will kick off a 3-week tour on November 28 in Washington, D.C. - making stops in New York, Boston, Chicago, and more - wrapping up December 15 in Hinds' hometown of Atlanta. See below for more details.

Only Time Can Tell
is the highly-anticipated follow-up to Hinds' acclaimed 2011 debut Don't Shiver, You're A Winner which SPIN proclaimed "a welcome departure from Mastodon's thrashy, progged-out fare...sounds like Tom Waits and Tim Burton co-hosting the creepiest vaudeville show ever," and Pitchfork praised for its "playfulness and off-the-cuff amiability."

West End Motel
began in 1993 under a bridge in Atlanta, where Hinds first met longtime friend Tom Cheshire. Describing themselves as a "conglomerate of losers, poets and hobo-sexuals," the pair write acoustic-guitar driven songs enriched with horns and keys, with the end result sounding like Nick Cave fronting Gogol Bordello. The project pre-dates Mastodon and offers an important glimpse into Hinds' musical influences.

"I grew up listening to Chet Atkins play guitar, and I grew up listening to Brian Setzer play guitar," explains Hinds. "Jimmy Bryant, Speedy West, all these country-chicken-pickin'-flying-'round-the-guitar-neck guitar players. I got really inspired by it. I'm from way down in the country. It was pretty common to have the interests I had when I was that age. MTV had some hair metal on there, but I was more interested in this rockabilly vibe. Stray Cats were really big at the time, in the '80s. It was epic."
