The tour, which is being presented by the popular NYC-centric music blog, BrooklynVegan.com, will begin on July 18th in Chicago, IL and finish in Toronto, ON on July 27th. For Hammers of Misfortune, this tour follows up an extremely successful appearance at Holland's Roadburn Festival 2012 in April. The Gates of Slumber are on tour now supporting Rise Above/Metal Blade label mates, Church of Misery, with headlining dates to run from June 11th-June 16th.

Hammers of Misfortune's 17th Street, released on October 25th of last year, stands as one of the most critically-acclaimed releases of 2011. The album reached #37 on Decibel Magazine's top 40 extreme albums of 2011 and NPR.org challenges fans to "listen to "The Grain" and try not to get the chorus stuck in your head for days." With a newly-rejuvenated line-up and their signature sound intact, San Francisco's Hammers of Misfortune have returned with 17th Street, a brash and heartfelt song cycle, blending the best elements of NWOBHM, thrash, doom metal, and American folk music while somehow sounding unlike any of these. 17th Street takes the band's inimitable sound to a new level, creating an emotional gravity that only further accentuates the band's formidable songwriting chops. "I can see how someone could find it an upbeat record at first glance" says John Cobbett, guitarist and producer of the band, also of underground metal legends Ludicra and Slough Feg. "If you listen carefully, you'll find that each song has its own point of view. You might find hope, or something very different, very dark."

The Gates of Slumber's The Wretch, released on May 10th, 2011, was praised by The Onion as "a hangover-haunted scorcher" and about.com raves that it's "the most captivating and accomplished album yet from a band that grows exponentially on each recording". Featuring eight slabs of punishing doom metal, The Wretch is the Indianapolis trio’s finest work to date. Recorded during the cold British winter of 2010 at Orgone Studios, London and produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano, the album sees the band taking their trademark blend of skull-crushing riffs and pounding rhythms to new heights and marks a return to the slower all-out doom tempos of their early albums.

The Gates Of Slumber: New Song Released

Click to enlargeDoom lords THE GATES OF SLUMBER unleashed their fifth full-length album The Wretch on May 10 via Rise Above Records / Metal Blade. Featuring eight slabs of punishing metal, The Wretch boils doom down to its purest form, resulting in the Indianapolis trio's finest work to date. As a special treat for metal fans, the band has contributed the song "The Jury" (2011 version) to Decibel's monthly "flexi disc series", which is free for subscribers of the magazine. Non-subscribers can purchase their copy of the extremely limited vinyl flexi disc HERE and enter for a chance to win a limited edition (1/1!) copy of disc autographed by the band by visiting this location.

Recorded during the cold British winter of 2010 at London's Orgone Studios and produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano (GHOST, ANGEL WITCH), The Wretch sees THE GATES OF SLUMBER pushing its trademark blend of skull-crushing riffs and pounding rhythms to new heights and marks a return to the slower all-out doom tempos of the group's early albums combined with "true doom metal" lyrical themes. The record's deathly cover art is taken from a watercolor and gouache painting by Arik "Moonhawk" Roper (HIGH ON FIRE) titled "Emerald Eclipse". The Wretch is a future hall of fame metal classic that has been called "without a doubt, their most compelling, complete album to date" and is available for purchase now at this location.

On May 28 in NYC, THE GATES OF SLUMBER will launch a U.S. tour alongside doom legends Orange Goblin. The can't-miss pairing of doom metal royalty will make stops in Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and more along the course of the tour's trail and will include support from Brooklyn heavy psych trio NAAM.
