All Pigs Must Die: New Lp Confirmed For Summer Release

Massachusetts-based ALL PIGS MUST DIE this week declares the details of their imminently destructive second LP pending release this Summer via Southern Lord.

After a stretch of silence since the Winter recording sessions of the anticipated follow-up to their enraged 2011-released God Is War, months of planning and plotting on every front of the ALL PIGS MUST DIE camp have gone into the creation of this quartet’s newest and most damaging new works yet; a ten-anthem declaration of disdain the band has dubbed Nothing Violates This Nature. While holding true to what the band is known for, on the new album APMD has obviously honed some new methods to their attack, merging some more calmly delivered protocols of execution with some of their most oppositely unhinged and violent rampages yet on this album. As with God Is War, the crushing Nothing Violates This Nature was recorded at Godcity with Kurt Ballou (Converge) and mastered at Audiosiege by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise), maximizing ALL PIGS MUST DIE’s deafening aggression, and the appropriately grim packaging illustrated by Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom), viewable HERE.

A hateful unification of musicians from notable acts The Hope Conspiracy, Converge, Bloodhorse and more, as ALL PIGS MUST DIE these assassins fuse some of the most straightforward metal/hardcore elements into anthems as instantly infectious as they are incendiary. Live they’ve stormed venues alongside Integrity, Enabler, Ringworm, Black Breath, Eyehategod, Repulsion, Down, Sleep, Exodus, Church Of Misery and tons of others as part of The Power Of The Riff events, Southern Lord label showcases, Scion Rock Fest, SXSW and more, including a U.S. tour with Narrows. 2013 will see APMD touring in support of Nothing Violates This Nature; stay tuned for updates including new music, live actions, an official street date and more over the coming weeks.

Agrimonia: Third LP Out Now On Southern Lord

Gothenburg metal outfit AGRIMONIA’s third LP Rites Of Separation is out now worldwide via Southern Lord, band’s first release for the label.

Following releases on Skuld Records, Profane Existence and others, AGRIMONIA hooked up with Southern Lord in mid-2012, after which they embarked on the recording sessions for their label debut Rites Of Separation. Mixed by Fredrik Nordstrom at Studio Fredman (At The Gates, Opeth, Arch Enemy), Rites Of Separation takes AGRIMONIA’s diverse and damaging alloy of metallic influences to more expansive realms than ever, its five sprawling tracks encompassing an hour, and the band’s crustpunk ethos delivered through grating, doom-filled riffs and post-metal voids, merging influence from a realm of influences possibly including Damad, Pelican, Crisis, Bolt Thrower and Nausea.

Stream all of Rites Of Separation now via Invisible Oranges.

New live actions for AGRIMONIA will be announced in the coming weeks; stay tuned.

“Though the personnel of members of Martyrdöd, Skitsystem and At the Gates may indicate a certain aesthetic, Gothenburg’s Agrimonia are truly emblematic of the term eclectic... the band uses solo piano/guitar, touches of industrial and ambiance to let more intense passages of death metal, sludge/doom, black metal, post-rock and crust breathe.” - Invisible Oranges

“There are massive solos and full moments of silence, death metal croaks and pleasant harmonies in the distance.” - Pitchfork

"Agrimonia are a very angry band, but the shades of light and beauty that seep from the cracks of their filth are where they truly shine. This nether region between light and dark is a compositional tool Agrimonia wield powerfully and with purpose." - No Clean Singing

“The length of the songs allows the members of Agrimonia to venture into quite a few dark places, and with good results... The band's musicianship is beyond stellar. 4/5” - About.com

Sleep: Southern Lord Issues Vinyl Repress + Cassette Of Dopesmoker

It’s now been nearly one year since the practitioners of Southern Lord Recordings were bestowed the honor of releasing SLEEP’s legendary Dopesmoker album and fans’ and critics’ response continues to be overwhelming! Thus, the label saw it fit to repress the vinyl edition again, just in time for the one year anniversary (April 20, 2013). Additionally, the label has committed the album to cassette!

Dopesmoker stands as one of the towering achievements in recent metal history: a mesmerizing, intoxicating, and incredibly complex composition that remains unrivaled in the evolution of stoner metal. Alarm Magazine christened it “a monolith of metal,” MSN echoed the sentiment calling the record, “one of the most influential stoner/doom albums ever recorded,” while Pitchfork crowned Dopesmoker “Best New Reissue” last year noting, “it’s an hour of adventure and momentum, where the lumber and the repetition somehow always push ahead. At a moment when black metal reinventers and D-beat revivers seem to dominate large sections of the heavy music world, maybe the thought of a resin-voiced singer intoning for an hour over riffs that wrap into themselves and drums that aim ever for infinity seems boring. But no matter how many times they had to record or rehearse ‘Dopesmoker’ to master it, or no matter how much pressure London placed on them to make something more commercial than personal, SLEEP sound as if their very existence depends upon the successful exercise of this weed ritual…. This record’s influence on substance, style, and simple ambition within heavy metal has long outlived the band that made it. “

The Southern Lord version of Dopesmoker features brand new artwork by longtime SLEEP artist, Arik Roper, who created something specifically special for the album’s rebirth. The biggest difference between this new version and the old releases is the phenomenal remastering job by Brad Boatright. His vision was to enhance the original recording without changing it drastically. What he has done makes this epic opus sound invigorated, more powerful with renewed clarity and unbelievably mammoth. His work was enthusiastically approved by the band and considering how focused, vigilant and protective of their masterpiece the band is, that is nothing short of a miracle.

Southern Lord worked painstakingly close with the band to make sure that this reissue was done correctly. It would have been completely unacceptable to cut corners or do anything that would not give this album the full respect it rightfully deserves. It meant everything to the label that SLEEP was 100% satisfied with the result of all the hard work and in fact has dubbed this thee ultimate version of the album.

Black Cobra Uncoils To Crush Brain-Cave Festival In Brooklyn

San Francisco-based sludge-mangling duo BLACK COBRA will uncoil across the country in Brooklyn this week for a devastating one-off show as part of the diverse Brain-Cave Festival. The annual festival showcases an incredible array of artists of all natures from around Brooklyn and abroad for four days. Undoubtedly the most punishing act set to perform at this year’s installment, BLACK COBRA will take one of the main headlining slots of the final day of the festival this Sunday, April 14th at Club Europa, joining Public Speaking, Belus, Bezoar, Jon Mizrachi, Ancient Sky, Mrs Adam Schatz, David First and more.

In June BLACK COBRA will take part in the massive annual three day Hellfest extravaganza in Clisson, France. Running from June 21st through 23rd, this year’s festival includes bands as massive as Kiss, ZZ Top, Danzig and Twisted Sister, with Black Cobra playing on the first day in “The Valley” joining Neurosis, Sleep, High On Fire, Pallbearer, labelmates Black Breath and Eagle Twin and more on one massive bill.

Released in October 2011 via Southern Lord, BLACK COBRA's fourth LP Invernal was one of the most critically acclaimed releases to emerge from the metal/sludge scene that year. Recorded at Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou's God City Studio and mastered by John Golden (Neurosis, Melvins, Weedeater), the album propelled the most diversified and matured songwriting from the duo to date forward with incredibly thunderous production, the theme to the entire record based on a post-apocalyptic trek to a nuclear infested and mutated Antarctica, inspired in part by the treks of English researcher Ernest Shackleton. The band perpetually toured through the year surpassing their 600th show mark in 2012 since the release of their debut LP Bestial in 2006.

View the band’s ominous video for “The Crimson Blade” and live footage of BLACK COBRA and more AT THIS LOCATION, and if you missed it check out drummer Rafa Martinez’ feature on the 50th Anniversary of the James Bond franchise HERE.

Power Trip: Texas Crossover Act Delivers Debut LP

Channeling the old-school energy of legendary acts like Cro-Mags, Nuclear Assault and Leeway through modern thrash warfare, Texas crossover battalion POWER TRIP has wrapped up production on their debut LP for Southern Lord and today distributes the details on the beast that is Manifest Decimation.

Amidst massive touring over the past five years, and having unloaded a cache of demos, splits and D.I.Y. releases along the way, the high-powered metallic punk/hardcore attack of Dallas-based POWER TRIP caught the attention of Southern Lord, who brought the crew on-board for the release of their first full-length. Recorded by Arthur Rizk and Daniel Schmuck in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Argyle, Texas, and produced, mixed, and mastered by Arthur Rizk at Solomon's Gate in Philadelphia, the eight tracks on Manifest Decimation hurtle the band’s “steel, speed and destruction” ethos direct at the jugular with thirty-five minutes of crossover intensity that sounds like it was excavated from a 1987 time capsule with sixteen tons of radioactive dynamite. The intense album layout was created by Italian artist Paolo "Madman" Girardi, completing this vile package for delivery via Southern Lord on June 11th, 2013.

The opening and title track Manifest Decimation has been let off the chain today via Pitchfork - FREE THE BEAST HERE.
