Latter Day Dio Classic, ‘Magica,’ To Get Deluxe CD Treatment

As long time fans can attest, the quality of Dio’s studio albums never wavered throughout the group’s near 30-year career. Case in point, the fan favorite/concept album, ‘Magica,’ which featured Ronnie James Dio’s one-of-a-kind vocals and the return of guitarist Craig Goldy. The album spawned such metal classics as “Fever Dreams,” “Turn to Stone,” and “Lord of the Last Day,” and has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide – largely on word of mouth alone. One small problem – the original 2000 CD version has been out of print for years, and has become increasingly hard to find. But to the delight of Dio fans worldwide, ‘Magica’ will be getting a makeover – on Tuesday, June 25th, 2013 as Niji Entertainment Group will be issuing the 2 CD ‘Magica Deluxe Edition.’

A breakdown of what will be included on this two CD set is as follows:

CD 1 will contain the full album.

1. Discovery

2. Magica Theme

3. Lord Of The Last Day

4. Fever Dreams

5. Turn To Stone

6. Feed My Head

9. As Long As It’s Not About Love

10. Losing My Insanity

CD 2 will contain “The Magica Story” (narrated by Ronnie James Dio) and the bonus track “Annica,” which was only available as a Japanese bonus track along with “Electra” (which was planned for ‘Magica 2 and 3′) and six, never before released Official Live Bootleg tracks from 2000/2001.

1. The Magica Story (Narrated By Ronnie James Dio)

Also included in the CD set will be deluxe packaging and a deluxe booklet (which will include the original ‘Magica’ tour dates and a set list), as well as such bonus inserts – including the “Magica Story” – and a Ronnie James Dio postcard.

And the accolades surrounding ‘Magica’ continue all these years later:

“Since I played such a major role in how ‘Magica’ was created, it became one of my most proudest Dio moments and an experience I shall never forget!”- Craig Goldy (Dio, Dio Disciples)

“‘Magica’ is an album I know Ronnie was extremely proud of. Epic is a word that I often use to describe it to people!”- Simon Wright (Dio, Dio Disciples)

“‘Magica’ was an extremely important album to Ronnie James Dio”- Eddie Trunk, “That Metal Show” VH1 Classic

“With this Deluxe Edition of “Magica,” we are reminded just how much Dio really meant – to all of us.”- Mick Wall, Legendary Writer/Radio host

Soon, Dio fans worldwide will get the opportunity to experience the mighty ‘Magica’ as they’ve never done before.

Rainbow "Live In Munich" On 2CD, Vinyl, And DVD On April 30

On April 30, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Rainbow: Live In Munich 1977 on 2CD, DVD, and 2LP [Pre-book Order Date April 5, MSRP $34.98 2LP, $17.98 2CD, $14.98 DVD]

Captured during the band’s 1977 European tour, Live In Munich is the only full live concert ever filmed with the classic Ritchie Blackmore/Ronnie James Dio/Cozy Powell classic line-up. With newly remastered sound, this is also the first time this complete concert is available on vinyl.

Rainbow was the brainchild of legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, created in 1975 after his departure from Deep Purple. A string of hit albums ignited immediate success, which persevered until 1983, when Blackmore disbanded the group (and re-joined Deep Purple). Featuring the line-up of Blackmore, Cozy Powell (drums), Bob Daisley (bass), David Stone (keyboards), and  premiere Rock and Roll vocalist Ronnie James Dio, the excitement in the air during this night was electric. This might be due, in part, to Blackmore’s late arrival to Munich just before the concert, after being smuggled out of Austria after trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier. This seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig.

The DVD includes original promo videos for “Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “Gates Of Babylon,” and “L.A. Connection,” a photo gallery, slideshow with audio commentary, interviews, and the “Rainbow Over Texas ‘76” feature, which includes additional interviews and performance footage. Truly, Live In Munich 1977 is a brilliant showcase of the primal electricity of Rainbow.

Dio Cancer Fund Presents $100K to T.J. Martell Foundation

The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund is certainly doing its part to raise money, spread awareness, and, hopefully, one day find a cure for the same illness that took the life of one of rock's all-time great vocalists, Ronnie James Dio.

SUAS RibbonThe Dio Cancer Fund, upon its formation two years ago, pledged a total of $300,000 to the TJ Martell Foundation (an organization founded by music industry senior executive Tony Martell - who lost a son to leukemia - which raises funds for cancer research) and had already donated $200,000 to the Foundation.  The remaining $100,000, which will be presented shortly, is earmarked for the gastric cancer research efforts at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, TN.  These monies were raised from the Dio Cancer Fund's recent annual Awards Gala and Celebrity Guitar Auction.

Tony Martell recently stated, "The T.J. Martell Foundation is honored to work with Wendy Dio and the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.  We are all working together to fund important stomach cancer research at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center that will lead to new discoveries and hope for patients and their families.  Ronnie James Dio was a friend of mine.  I know he would be proud of the progress being made in his name."

On Saturday, December 1st, at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, a celebrity guitar auction was held benefiting the Dio Cancer Fund, which featured over 80 instruments donated by some of rock's biggest names, including Slayer, Def Leppard, Eddie Van Halen, Brian May, Aerosmith, Slash, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Tony Iommi, the Foo Fighters, and many others.

"Ronnie James Dio was such a force in music and his memory continues to conjure thoughts of rock royalty," said Darren Julien, Founder & CEO of Julien's Auctions.  "It was an honor for Julien's Auctions to host the recent guitar auction that benefited The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund. Dean Schachtel and the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund Board Members put their heart and soul into the event, and the passion of all the celebrities and musical artists who donated their guitars was phenomenal.  Because of this we were able to raise much needed funds for an exceptional charity and cause."

As Dio's widow and founder/president of the Fund, Wendy Dio, explains:  "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the musicians and managers who donated guitars for our auction.  Many thanks to Darren and everyone at Julien's Auctions for printing such a beautiful catalogue and working so hard on our behalf.  Thanks to Dean Schachtel and my very hardworking Board of Directors-together we raised an amazing sum for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.  We will be presenting the T.J. Martell Foundation with a check for $100,000 which, in turn, will go to the Vanderbilt Research Center for studies in gastric cancers.  Ronnie would be so very proud of all of you.  Early detection saves lives, and one day, with your help, we will find a cure."

The Dio Cancer Fund, a privately funded 501C3 charity organization dedicated to cancer prevention, research and education, also hosted its annual Awards Gala on Halloween night at the Avalon in Hollywood, which raised additional funds for its work.

As the singer of some of the most iconic bands of the hard rock/heavy metal genre - Rainbow, Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell, and Dio - Ronnie James Dio's vocals can be heard on such all-time classics as "Man on the Silver Mountain," "Long Live Rock n' Roll," "Neon Knights," "Heaven and Hell," "Rainbow in the Dark," "Holy Diver," and "The Last in Line," among countless others. Dio passed away on May 16, 2010 after a battle with stomach cancer, at the age of 67.
