Green Day & Actions Realized Collaborate To Benefit Children's Hospital

Green Day announced that they would collaborate with Actions REALized to create a line of decks to benefit Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland.  Skateboarding and music can be a positive force for change. That simple thought is something REAL and Green Day have always believed.

Longtime friends Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Jim Thiebaud Co-Founder of REAL Skateboards have always talked about doing something together and the time and cause for this was just right. The full story, with video, photos and benefit decks is now live at actionsrealized.com

A portion of the proceeds from these decks will be donated to Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland. Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland is the Bay Area's only independent children's hospital. For over 100 years, its mission has been to take care of every child who needs help, regardless of ability to pay.

Haust: Backwoods Blackened Oslo Punks Release Third LP

Three years since their previous album, HAUST are back with their most raw and primitive release to date. A tirade of oxymorons in musical form, in the nine short tracks of NO the listener is pulled back into a time where rock and punk were synonymous with rawness and vulnerability; a worship of total humiliation, of the pleasure in realizing one's own limitations. Like all outsider music, HAUST celebrates those who walk their own paths; who run away from Sunday School to go berserk in the woods.

The guys in HAUST grew up in Notodden in the hills of Norway, in the shadows of hotrod hicks and the black metal crowd surrounding Emperor. HAUST were never a part of these groups, but were inevitably infected by the mix of white trash and black metal. After HAUST moved to Oslo they were quickly picked up by Tiger Record's newly started label Fysisk Format. Ride the Relapse was the first album the label released in 1998, and with songs like "White Trash Extravaganza" and "Ugly Fucking Oslo" the band became a focal point and defining reference for like-minded people in Oslo. The follow-up release Powers of Horror from 2010 is a more complex record, the band’s visibility grew internationally, the band scoring a tour with Rotten Sound and Trap Them. Their "Anti-Reproductive" agenda spread and the band ironically became the source of a load of new bands: the milieu that quickly was named "Black Hole Crew" spewed out shady bands like Okkultokrati, Dark Times and Blackest Woods. All these bands had two things in common: Primarily disgust for the choking chummery in Oslo’s music scene, and secondarily, they all featured members or production help from HAUST.

After two records and splits with Okkultokrati and Next Life, HAUST were on the verge of decay and dissolve. The deliverance that led to NO came in the form of new drummer Øystein Wyller Odden (Uniforms & Dropouts) and bassist Henrik Myrvold (Evolve, Raging Fugitives). An old friend Jørn Tore Egseth was brought in to play keyboard and mix the record with guitarist Pål Bredrup, and Dark Times' Ann Kristin Traaen provides vocals on the title track and "Into The Night". Full of new ideas and drive, NO was created in two short weeks full of arguing, distrust and rehearsal. When the time for the actual recording session, the studio technician at Malabar in Oslo barely had time to put on the coffee before the band were done: In one hour, everything was put to tape. That was all it took for the record to be, in the words of the opening track, "Trashy and tasteful. Pure and hateful. Raw rudimentary rage".

NO was mastered by Dave Eck at
Lucky Lacquers and features artwork by Esben Titland. The video for the album’s title track features HAUST guitarist Pål Bredrup (also of Okkultokrati) and was directed by vocalist Vebjørn, who states about the song: “NO is about loving the world that exploits you and wanting to die because of it.”  Check it all out RIGHT HERE.

Haraball Breaks Out An Extremely Cold New Video

To celebrate their new single “Well, That Passed,” the opening track to their upcoming debut album, Sleep Tall, Norwegian hardcore punks HARABALL teamed up movie directors Kimm Saatvedt and Thomas Ekstrøm to shoot the only group that compares with HARABALL when it comes to stubbornness and style: The arctic fakirs of The Norwegian Polar Bear Club. The video was shot on location in the Norwegian countryside; no actors, no tricks... just real bodies and real ice!

Dip into the frigid confrontation of “Well, That Passed” RIGHT HERE.

HARABALL is the result of the joyful friction that arises when cocky ex-straightedgers meet highbrow elitist punks, unloading a sharp and ultra-consistent style of old-school hardcore. And now the Norwegian hardcore punk outfit is preparing to unleash their debut album, Sleep Tall, on CD, LP and digital download May 28th via Fysisk Format. With fifteen tracks written with the principle of "maximum musical energy effect per second," each loaded riff was dissected and reconstructed until they became the musical shockwaves to be witnessed on Sleep Tall, the record’s lyrics focusing on the frustrations of everyday life. HARABALL recorded Sleep Tall in the legendary Crystal Canyon Studios themselves, with guitarist Trond Mjøen behind the mixing board. The album’s artwork was conceived by Esra Caroline Røise who also did the artwork for the two first 7". In Esra the classic hardcore illustrators Raymond Pettibon (Black Flag, Minutemen) and Tesco Vee (Meatmen) have found a sister in spirit. Fysisk Format has also included the tracks from both of the band’s previous 7” releases, adding eight bonus tracks to the melee!

Stay tuned for the dates to HARABALL’s upcoming June European tour with label cohorts Haust and more.

The Welch Boys ‘Bring Back The Fight’ On New Album Out In June

Boston’s raucous punk rockers The Welch Boys are teaming up again with Sailor’s Grave Records to release their third studio album, Bring Back The Fight, on June 11th.  The band is inviting fellow punk rockers to stream their new song, “Belly of the Beast,” now at PunkNews.org.

Stream The Welch Boys’ track “Belly of the Beast” now at http://bit.ly/164xUIL.

The streets of Boston have always delivered some of the world's finest punk rock music, and The Welch Boys have been at the forefront of the city's scene for almost a decade. The band was formed from members of bands like Slapshot and The Blue Bloods and released their first album on Sailor's Grave Records in 2004, establishing the band as one of New England’s best new punk bands.   They dropped their excellent second disc Drinking Angry a few years later, and have been playing to enthusiastic crowds and developing a devoted fan base ever since.

2013 brings the release of the band's third disc, Bring Back The Fight, on Sailor's Grave records.  Their infectious sing-alongs and hardcore influenced mayhem are still present; however, this time, the band increases the speed and anger.  The new album’s thunderous rhythms are propelled by the addition of drummer Sam Jodrey, formerly of Boston's crust punk legends Toxic Narcotic.  Producer Benny Grotto (Aerosmith, Gang Green, Slapshot) applies his masterful skills to achieve a sound that is raw and explosive.

Featuring fourteen fist pumping punk rock anthems, Bring Back The Fight does not let up until the very last notes.  With songs like “Belly of the Beast,” a track based on guitarist TJ Welch’s run in with the Marblehead Police, “I Feel Like Drinkin’,” a boisterous party track that’ll have pints hoisted in the air and the hard-hitting “Hand Grenade,” which New England’s own notorious mixed martial arts legend Marcus Davis uses as his official entrance song for his fights, Bring Back The Fight further cements The Welch Boys’ place as one of the staples in New England’s punk scene.

Lyrically, The Welch Boys sing from the heart in working man's prose.  Front man Ed Lalli growls about pain and joy, addiction and freedom, vengeance and forgiveness, failure and triumph.  Guitar leads soar, bass lines rumble, and when the chorus hits, it is hard to resist singing along with the boys.  Amid all the madness and anger, there is an underlying thread of hope and resilience. The Welch Boys have distilled a powerful shot from their environment. The music is rough and crude, just like the streets of Boston.

“The band is pleased to be working with our friends at Sailor's Grave records again for our latest release, Bring Back The Fight, says guitarist TJ Welch.  “Andy and Duane at SGR have supported our band since the beginning. They are like brothers.  Their organization is a perfect fit for this band.  We have a mutual love of punk rock music.  We are fortunate to be among their roster of the finest punk bands in the world. They are a great group of guys, easy to work with, and very supportive. We feel that our new album represents our best effort yet.  Sailor's Grave Records has always cultivated great music from Boston, and Bring Back The Fight is probably the best record we’ve ever made. “
