Pilgrim Sign New Deal With Metal Blade Records

Rhode Island's PILGRIM has officially joined forces with Metal Blade Records! Their debut album, Misery Wizard, was released in early 2012 through Alan Averill's Metal Blade imprint, Poison Tongue Records. PILGRIM managed to spend the majority of 2012 rattling the foundation of the underground doom scene. The band toured with Samothrace, Mares of Thrace, Primitive Weapons, headlined the Stoner Hands of Doom festival, and more. At the end of 2012, PILGRIM had the honor of performing at Metal Blade's 30th Anniversary ScionAV label showcase. Live audio, as well as interviews from the event can be found at scionav.com. Most recently, PILGRIM performed as part of the Roadburn Festival 2013 in the Netherlands. A bootleg from that show is on youtube HERE, and features two brand new tracks.

As the Misery Wizard chapter of PILGRIM's budding career draws to a close, the band has begun efforts to craft the follow-up to what became a critically-acclaimed debut. The new album will be recorded in May of 2013 at Emandee Studios, which is the same location utilized for Misery Wizard. More details will be posted as they become available.

"The stars have aligned and our dreams have come true. It's a fucking honor to have joined the ranks of the legendary Metal Blade army. The time has come for our world domination through sonic amplification. Hail Astaroth, Hail Slagel." - The Wizard

A high quality live bootleg of a new track, "Void Worship," from the band's March 1st show at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, NY has been made available on youtube HERE.

PILGRIM is:
Krolg, Slayer of Men - Drums
Count Elric the Soothsayer - Bass
The Wizard - Guitar and Vocals

Global accolades for Misery Wizard:
"They plod with vigor, they howl wretchedly, they gnash their musical teeth with glee." Decibel Magazine

"these Sabbathian hymns to the void are about as close to doom metal perfection as it's possible to get." Kerrang Magazine - #43/100 Album of the Year

"Heavy, expansive, classic-sounding sword & sorcery-inspired doom." Pitchfork.com

"Misery Wizard perfectly captures that time-distorted, red-eyed basement vibe that comes after weeks of loading up on substances and pounding out dark glacial riffs until skins break and valves burn…sluggish, string-bending grooves, hulking tones, emphatic percussion and emotive vocals…" Metal Hammer Magazine

"Their six track behemoth bathes in classic doom and a tad of geekery, and it's one of this year's most impressive debuts…The Wizard's impassioned, cleanly delivered vocals stand out as one of the band's finer points. He's a compelling storyteller/incantation master, one who could convince you he's singing from a secret scroll of magic potions and folklore…For those upset by the Bill Ward free Sabbath reunion? Screw that. Listen to Pilgrim." 9/10, Outburn Magazine

Pilgrim Kick Off Tour With Mares Of Thrace Tonight

Rhode Island's doom-doers PILGRIM will kick off a short but punishing run of tour dates tonight with Calgary's metallic sludgesters Mares Of Thrace and Brooklyn metallic hardcore outfit Primitive Weapons. The festivities will commence in Boston and plunder its way through the Northeastern and Midwest US.

Comments PILGRIM guitarist/vocalist The Wizard "Getting back out on the road excites us in ways no voluptuous wench or black grimoire of spells ever could. The time has come to quest the Eastern roads and spread our misery once again, to places familiar and new. Astaroth be praised."

In addition, PILGRIM will be headlining this year's edition of The Stoner Hands of Doom Fest, one of the premier annual gatherings for underground heavy/stoner/doom music in North America. Set to take place August 30 through September 2 at El n Gee Club in New London, Connecticut, PILGRIM will appear alongside the likes of Earthride, Revelation, When The Deadbolt Breaks and more.

PILGRIM Confirmed Tour Dates

8/01/2012 Columbus Club – North Providence, RI
8/02/2012 Cherry St. Station – Wallingford, CT
8/03/2012 Saint Vitus – Brooklyn, NY
8/04/2012 Broadway Bar – Amityville, NY

8/31/2012 SHoD @ El N Gee Club – New London, CT

PILGRIM come to the Metal Blade roster via Alan Nemtheanga's imprint, Poison Tongue Records. The doom trio consists of: drummer Krolg Splinterfist, the Slayer of Man, bassist Count Elric the Soothsayer and The Wizard. With a mix of destruction, misery and beauty, these young disciples of doom blend a surprisingly original sword 'n' sorcery feel with the classic chest-caving heaviness of the masters, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre and Pentagram. Their thick walls of majestically darkened guitar, massive booming bass, and dangerously powerful yet calculated drumming lull listeners into an intense dream-like trance, abducting them to places they never knew were dwelling within their own minds. Commented Pitchfork: "…in a realm where the old-school and the experimental push against one another in an eternally dynamic non-equilibrium, it's certainly not about who your influences are. It's, of course, about how you use them. PILGRIM simply have fun with these predecessors, renewing old sounds with the zeal of teenage boys worshiping cheap Sabbath posters on their bedroom walls and the skills of players who've been at this for a while. PILGRIM sing about devils and tears, paying dues and surviving adventures, taking care to touch on most of the requisite tropes while not pushing any one too far... This is an excellent debut from a preternaturally developed upstart."

"...they do an admirable job of unnerving you while beating you senseless, insidious and alluring melodies infecting everything they do. As a statement of intent, The Shadow Gallery leaves no doubt that Primitive Weapons is the real deal... 9/10" - Outburn

"It's a coruscating blend of slow-motion hard/metalcore with a bit of good ol' American sludge bringing up the rear." - Decibel

"Primitive Weapons know a little of a good thing goes a long way, and that their full-volume maximum-effort music straddles a delicate line between exhilarating and exhausting. Holding back on the song front might irk fans that want all the Primitive Weapons they can handle, but better to leave them wanting more than to wear out a welcome. 7.9/10" - Pitchfork

"Take Deadguy's burly, mid-tempo chaos, dice up the spaces between with tribal, Liars-esque drumbeats... creepy melodic passages... and a cacophony of swirling riffs... and you have The Shadow Gallery in a nutshell." - Alternative Press

"...for all their noisy bluster and rigid unpredictability they rarely lose sight of the songs themselves. The attention paid to dynamics and the relative brevity (no songs exceed the 5 minute mark) keep things both concise and cathartic. 4/5" - The PRP

"Primitive Weapons have somehow found their own singular voice in a post-Mastodonian minefield littered with carcasses of bands that have tried and failed to capture the energy of the latter’s early recordings." - Metalsucks

Primitive Weapons, Mares Of Thrace, Pilgrim To Co-Headline Tour

This August, three contemporary extreme music luminaries -- PRIMITIVE WEAPONS, MARES OF THRACE and PILGRIM -- will hit the road on a three-way co-headlining tour of the Northeastern U.S.

The diverse, ten-date excursion will commence in Boston on the last day of July and run counter-clockwise through Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Ohio before the finale in Chicago. As all three acts have recently released new LPs, and all demand your attention as they project their intense anthems from the state, PRIMITIVE WEAPONS, MARES OF THRACE and PILGRIM will take turns headlining shows throughout the endeavor.

The Pilgrimage -- the sophomore LP from Calgary duo MARES OF THRACE -- was released worldwide via Sonic Unyon Metal in April. Critics and fans alike have been blown away by the band’s dynamic, metallic hybrid of sludge and scathing metalcore tendencies, the album receiving rave reviews and major coverage from media outlets worldwide. Following a victorious Spring tour through Southern Canada and the Northern U.S., the band are energized to get back out there and sear some more ears this Summer.

PILGRIM's debut LP Misery Wizard was released through Metal Blade via Alan Nemtheanga’s (Primordial) imprint, Poison Tongue Records, in February. With a mix of destruction, misery and beauty, this Rhode Island-based doom trio blend a surprisingly original sword ‘n’ sorcery feel with the classic chest-caving heaviness of the masters, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre and Pentagram. The trio has been touring regionally throughout the Eastern U.S. all year, including performances at this year's SXSW festivities, along with two large Scandinavian metal fests in May.

Brooklyn ethereal hardcore/metal squad PRIMITIVE WEAPONS released their lauded debut album The Shadow Gallery in March, on CD via Prosthetic Records and on LP via Brutal Panda Records. The band's unique blend of unhinged, foreboding metallic hardcore and killer stage presence has elevated the unit from being an NYC live favorite to a nationally touring band, having toured down to SXSW and back this Spring and much more in support of the album.

Pilgrim To Headline Stoner Hands Of Doom Fest

Following a successful set at Denmark’s Heavy Days In Doomtown Festival, Rhode Island-based doom conjurors PILGRIM are pleased to announce their headlining appearance on this year’s edition of The Stoner Hands of Doom Fest. Set to take place August 30 through September 2 at El n Gee Club in New London, Connecticut, PILGRIM will appear alongside the likes of Earthride, Revelation, When The Deadbolt Breaks and more!

Stoner Hands of Doom is one of the premier annual gatherings for underground heavy/stoner/doom music in North America. SHoD has been held annually since 1999 in various small venues throughout the U.S. Many acts are unsigned/indie and many travel thousands of miles to gather in the name of rock. The concept was dreamed up by promoters Rob and Cheryl Levey, who have planned, booked and organized it since its inception. Under their guidance, the festival affectionately known as SHoD has grown over ten years from a one-day event to a weekend-long gathering, featuring over three dozen bands.

Comments drummer Krolg Splinterfist , the Slayer of Man: "Playing in Scandinavia was a great honor. The first ever Heavy Days in Doomtown festival was a massive success and PILGRIM is proud to have been a part of something that will surely become a chief ceremony for all lovers of music that is slow and heavy. Hails to all of the promoters and organizers who made our shows in the area a possibility! We will return sooner than later! PILGRIM looks into the future with great eagerness. The Stoner Hands of Doom festival has a long history in the New England doom metal community and we are prepared to add our name to the long list of bands that have glorified this fest. We are privileged and honored to be headlining the bill with the legendary Revelation, who has been an inspiration to many modern doom bands, ourselves included."

In addition to their stint on SHoD, PILGRIM will bring their dirge to the stage of Brooklyn this Friday at Saint Vitus with fellow doom doers Witch Mountain.

PILGRIM Upcoming Dates
