Queen "Greatest Video Hits" 2 DVD To Be Released August 28

Over three hours long on two DVDs, one of the greatest visual bands in rock history will get their due on August 28 when Eagle Rock Entertainment, the world leader in visual music, releases Greatest Video Hits by Queen [Pre-book order date August 3, MSRP $19.98].

Upgraded digitally in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound, with added commentary from lead guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, this 2DVD set packages Queen’s pioneering and groundbreaking video history into a seamless whole. 33 videos deep, this is the first time that this collection will be released in one package.

Heavy on the early days, the first disc spotlights Queen in the 1970s, when the music video as an art form began to emerge. It includes the iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Another One Bites The Dust,” “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions,” as well as “Flash,” from the 1980 sci-fi film Flash Gordon. From the freezing backyard shoots of “We Will Rock You” and “Spread Your Wings,” to the visual masterpiece that accompanies “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Queen was already showing off the various ways that they visually wanted to represent their music.

The 1980 years are represented on Disc 2, from 1982’s Hot Space album through 1989’s The Miracle. With the advent of MTV in the US, Queen proved they could be as creative visually as they were on record. The ’84 “Radio Ga Ga” video was hailed by both film and music critics alike for its referencing of the original 1927 cinematic milestone Metropolis by Fritz Lang. From the spoofing of Coronation Street in “I Want To Break Free,” to children replacing the band members in “The Miracle,” Queen put their stamp on the music video in the best way they knew how – offering something fresh and different every time.

Queen burned so bright it created a legacy that continues today. From its self-titled 1973 debut to its fitting finale 1995’s Made In Heaven, the band set precedents within rock music that will never be equaled. Singer/songwriter/pianist/guitarist Freddie Mercury (1946-1991), bassist John Deacon, May and Taylor meshed like magic and the results will be seen, heard and deeply felt on August 28.

Eagle Rock will also release the Freddie Mercury documentary The Great Pretender on DVD and Blu-ray September 25.

Muddy Waters & The Rolling Stones "Live At The Checkerboard Lounge"

Leave it to Eagle Rock Entertainment, the world’s leader in visual music, to come up with a rare gem of rock’n’roll and blues history. July 10 is the street date for the DVD and special two-disc DVD/CD package of Muddy Waters & The Rolling Stones Live At The Checkerboard Lounge Chicago 1981. Additionally, this delectable slice of American History will also be released as a DVD/2LP vinyl set on September 11. [Pre-book Order Date June 15, MSRP $19.98 for DVD/CD, $14.98 for DVD, and $12.99 Digital]

On November 22, 1981, the Rolling Stones were criss-crossing America on one of their mammoth tours when they had a night off in Chicago, Illinois. What to do? The decision was a no-brainer. Muddy Waters (1915-1983) was in town that night performing at his own juke-joint, The Checkerboard Lounge. It didn’t take long before The Master called up to the stage his students, vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarists Ron Wood and Keith Richards and piano player Ian Stewart. The four Stones wound up jamming with Muddy and his band to the absolute delight of the lucky patrons there that night and, man, they raised the roof.

It was all caught on camera and recorded for posterity.

Now, with the advantage of DTS Surround Sound, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Stereo, mixed and mastered by Bob Clearmountain, this 90-minute wang-dang-doodle has been lovingly preserved for the ages. Add Buddy Guy, Junior Wells (1934-1998), and other musicians into the equation and the sum of these parts is not only greater than the whole but worth salivating over. Heretofore only available as a bootleg, this is the complete package that will have musicologists buzzing.

Pink Floyd's "The Story Of Wish You Were Here"

Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the simultaneous release on June 26 of Pink Floyd The Story Of Wish You Were Here on DVD and Blu-ray.  This is the authorized story of the album made with the full involvement and approval of the members of Pink Floyd. [Pre-book Order Date June 1, MSRP $TBA]

Wish You Were Here, released in September 1975, was the follow up album to the globally successful The Dark Side Of The Moon and is cited by many fans, as well as band members Richard Wright and David Gilmour, as their favorite Pink Floyd album. On release it went straight to Number One in both the UK and the US and topped the charts in many other countries around the world. This program tells the story of the making of this landmark release through new interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason and archive interviews with the late Richard Wright. Also featured are sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, guest vocalist Roy Harper, front cover “burning man” Ronnie Rondell and others involved in the creation of the album. In addition, original recording engineer Brian Humphries revisits the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios to illustrate aspects of the songs’ construction.

The band members discuss the album’s themes of absence, the greed of the music business and former band member Syd Barrett, who is famously celebrated in “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, which both opens and closes the album. The program also covers the unexpected visit Barrett paid to Abbey Road during the recording, the difficulties of the early recording sessions and how the decision to split “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” into two sections was the catalyst for the album’s successful completion.

The DVD and Blu-ray releases contain additional bonus material not featured in the TV broadcast version, including further interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason plus Roger Waters and David Gilmour performing excerpts from the Wish You Were Here album.

The Story Of Wish You Were Here is a fascinating document and fitting tribute to Pink Floyd’s outstanding achievement in the creation of this masterpiece.

Rolling Stones' Documentary To Coincide With The 50th Anniversary

In celebration of the Rolling Stones’ 50th anniversary, Eagle Rock Entertainment is pleased to release a groundbreaking and eye-opening documentary, featuring remarkable revelations from the world’s most legendary band.  This is the first film to ever trace the evolution of the Rolling Stones’ from 1963, making it the ultimate Stones experience.  The film will be showcased in September as part of the Rolling Stones 50th anniversary celebrations.

“We are thrilled to continue our relationship with the Rolling Stones and help to bring this extraordinary documentary film to millions of fans,” said Terry Shand, Eagle Rock chairman and CEO.

The film is a cinematic journey through the incredible eye of director Brett Morgen, capturing hours of never-before-seen footage in a rare, uncensored format that reveals the band’s vivid stories told through their eyes and their voices. With paramount access to the band and their materials retrieved from vaults and personal archives, Morgen captures astonishing new interviews and footage.  “For anyone who wants to experience the band, this is the film that will defy convention and create a sonic tapestry to transport viewers into the world of the Rolling Stones,” said Morgen, an Academy Award nominee who is known for esteemed work on The Kid Stays in the Picture among many other projects. “The film will deliver the original, bold, sexy and dangerous flavor of the iconic rock band.”

Fans go on the road, in the studio, behind the scenes, and witness each band member’s personal, unfiltered perspective on the legendary life of the Rolling Stones – embarking on a journey through 50 years of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. The film is executive produced by the Rolling Stones, produced by Victoria Pearman, co-produced by Morgan Neville and directed by Brett Morgen.

It has previously been announced that Thames & Hudson will release the only official and authorized book The Rolling Stones: 50 to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary on July 12. Jeff Healey Band's "Live In Belgium" DVD/CD Set

Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to continue its Jeff Healey Band archival series with the April 3 DVD-CD release of Live In Belgium. [Pre-book Order Date March 9, MSRP $19.98]

Touring in 1993 in support of their Feel This album, The Jeff Healey Band hit The Peer Blues Festival in Belgium running! The double-disc package-which includes the show both visually and aurally-contains 12 tight, taut gems in Dolby Digital Stereo and Dolby 5.1. The songs are highlighted by Healey's soulful vocals and his wild'n'wooly over-the-top electric guitar solos, played in his inimitable style on his lap like a dobro. His visceral, energetic performance sets the crowd buzzing right from note #1.

The 82 minutes fly by as Healey really gets into his signature cover of George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as well as "Roadhouse Blues" by The Doors and some of his own classic tracks including "Angel Eyes" and "Full Circle." Making this particular performance special is the fact that the trio is augmented by two backing vocalists and a keyboard player. This takes the presentation up to a whole new level as the band is, in effect, doubled. Besides the Feel This material, Healey performs tracks off his very popular See The Light and Hell To Pay albums.

Jeff Healey (1966-2008) was a Canadian singer/songwriter/guitarist of mammoth talent who fused a love of blues and rockin' anthems into a jam-happy stew of crowd-crazy proportions. He could sing like an angel, sting like a bee on his axe and perform like he was born to do so.
