Ides Of Gemini Added To Los Angeles Stop Of Decibel Magazine Tour

West Coast ethereal doom trio IDES OF GEMINI were recently added to the Los Angeles stop of the long-anticipated Decibel Magazine Tour. The tour, which boasts the monolithic lineup of Behemoth, Watain, The Devil’s Blood and In Solitude, will make its way to the House of Blues on April 25 and IDES OF GEMINI are grateful for the opportunity to open the eclectic rituals that evening.

Comments guitarist/backing vocalist J. Bennett: "IDES OF GEMINI are beyond thrilled to be joining Behemoth, Watain, The Devil's Blood and In Solitude on the Los Angeles date of Decibel's mega-tour extravaganza. For anyone who wants to get there before all the blood and Satanism starts - I know, I know: why would you wanna do that? - we promise to make it worth your while. And by that I mean that we will be handing out free drugs before we play. Okay, that's a lie. I'm not gonna share my drugs with you. We barely know each other. See you on the 25th, though?"

To purchase tickets to the Los Angeles date, head to THIS LOCATION.

Additionally, IDES OF GEMINI will be permorining on April 15, 2012 at the Blue Cafe Underground Long Beach, California alongside Alcest, Lake of Blood, and Destroy Judas . More info on the event is available HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI is a collusion of musical forces precipitated by the haunting and inimitable vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of Los Angeles dark-psych alchemists Black Math Horseman. The compositions are the long-simmering mental fallout of veteran music and film journalist J. Bennett (guitar/backing vocals), who has spent most of the last 14 years writing for such publications as Decibel, Terrorizer, Revolver, Alternative Press and Thrasher. The third and final corner of the triangle is Kelly Johnston, whose martial drumming techniques and soaring backing vocals literally brought IDES OF GEMINI to life as a performing entity. The band will unveil their full-length debut, Constantinople, via Neurot Recordings. Set for North American release on May 29, 2012 (May 28 in UK/EU), Constantinople’s nine-tracks were produced by IDES OF GEMINI, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Skeletonwitch) at Sunset Lodge Recording in Los Angeles and features striking cover art collaboration by Timms and Bennett.

“Sera Timms’ voice is a national treasure. It’s a reverb-soaked choir of 4AD ghosts floating over scratchy guitars. Burzum scoring a spaghetti western. This stuff gives me chills.” – Decibel

PILGRIM will be leveling the East Coast this March with their soul-searing bottom-end before making their way to Europe in May. Confirmed dates thus far are available below.

PILGRIM Misery On The Road 2012
03/01/2012 Public Assembly – Brooklyn, NY
03/02/2012 JR’s Bar – Philadelphia, PA
03/03/2012 St. Stephen’s Church – Washington DC
03/04/2012 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA

03/12/2012 1624 N. Harrison St. House – Ft. Wayne, IN w/ Old Soul, Gathians, Somnambulist Red

03/14/2012 ND Studios – Austin TX (Pitchfork's Show No Mercy SXSW showcase)
05/02/2012 Betong – Oslo, Norway
05/04/2012 Heavy Days in Doom Town Festival – Copenhagen, Denmark

PILGRIM are the latest addition to the Metal Blade roster via Primordial frontman Alan Nemtheanga’s imprint, Poison Tongue Records. The doom trio consists of: Krolg Splinterfist, Slayer of Men on drums, Count Elric the Soothsayer on bass guitar and The Wizard on guitar and vocals. With a mix of destruction, misery and beauty, these young disciples of doom blend a surprisingly original sword ‘n’ sorcery feel with the classic chest-caving heaviness of the masters, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre and Pentagram.

“…an absolutely brilliant album consisting of six epic, fantastical tracks of crushing, deceptively hypnotic and magical doom where no singular highlights exist – each track can stand alone – because the entire effort is a highlight.” – Terrorizer

“...in a realm where the old-school and the experimental push against one another in an eternally dynamic non-equilibrium, it's certainly not about who your influences are. It's, of course, about how you use them. PILGRIM simply have fun with these predecessors, renewing old sounds with the zeal of teenage boys worshipping cheap Sabbath posters on their bedroom walls and the skills of players who've been at this for a while...” – Pitchfork

“...an impressive offering from a young band.” – Powerline

“This is true doom metal, not the hybrid bile that so many bands are passing off as doom these days. The monster riffs will bludgeon you senseless and shake you to the core, but you’ll keep coming back from more, willingly and repeatedly.” – Pure Grain Audio

“…slow, ponderous, crushing doom, owing much to vintage Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, and the like. Ominous riffs, pounding rhythms, and haunting vocals make up the formula here, and tracks such as ‘Quest,’ ‘Astaroth,’ and ‘Masters of the Sky’ mix up the slow motion death marches with speedier dirges for a wild ride.” – Sea Of Tranqility

Bereft To Release 'Leichenhaus'

Bereft is a Los Angeles based melodic sludgy doom band featuring Sacha Dunable of Intronaut and Graviton, Derek Donley of National Sunday Law and Graviton, Charles Elliott of Abysmal Dawn and ex-The Faceless vocalist Derek Rydquist.

Bereft released its first track “Withered Efflorescence” exclusively via their Facebook page in early September 2011 to rave reviews and online buzz, followed by their debut live show September 30 in Los Angeles, CA. Elliott has stated that Bereft is all about “dark, depressing doom… definitely different from what we do in our usual bands.  It’s heavy as hell and we’re all really proud of how the record and collaboration came out, and we hope people feel the same way.”

The debut album Leichenhaus , a conceptual album thematically revolving around a waiting mortuary, is due 4/24/12 on The End Records.

"Real music is birthed from pain, hatred, despair, suffering and regret… and this is our bastard child."

The album revolves around two themes: the waiting mortuary and Sky Burial.

Waiting mortuary is a mortuary building designed by early cultures, in a time where the certainty of death was debatable, specifically for the purpose of confirming that deceased persons are truly deceased. To alleviate the fear of burying someone alive, the deceased were housed temporarily to look out for signs of life. Most popular in 19th Century Germany, they were ornate buildings with large bell towers to alert attendants of movement. Occasionally it has erroneously been thought this is where the phrase “Saved by the Bell” was born, as a living soul was saved from burial – it actually originates in the sport of boxing.

Sky Burial, or ritual dissection, is a funerary practice in Tibet, wherein a human corpse was incised in certain locations and placed on a mountaintop, exposing it to the elements (mahabhuta) and animals – especially to predatory birds. The locations of these “burials” are understood as charnel grounds. As many Tibetans are Buddhists, in which the idea of rebirth is adhered to, the body is seen as an empty vessel upon death. Sky Burial is in the simplest understanding, the easiest way to dispose of a body post mortem.
