Ides Of Gemini Announce Haze Over North America 2013 Tour

West Coast ethereal doom trio IDES OF GEMINI are pleased and honored to announce a full tour this Spring supporting cult metalists, Ghost. Dubbed the Haze Over North America 2013 tour, the three-week run will commence on April 18th in Denver, Colorado, with additional IDES headlining dates to be announced in the coming weeks. The jaunt follows the band’s successful month-long trek through Europe last Fall and an opening slot with legendary sound revolutionaries Neurosis in January.

Notes guitarist/backing vocalist J. Bennett of the upcoming journey: “Ghost’s Opus Eponymous is the ultimate liturgical canon for our fair young century — catchy as hell, too — and we couldn’t be more thrilled to traverse the continent with them. Keeping secrets is one of our favorite pastimes, so touring with an anonymous band is especially satisfying for us. Plus, we get along famously with Satanists. In other words: Aces all around.”

IDES OF GEMINI will be touring in support of their transcendental doom masterwork, Constantinople. Released stateside via Neurot Recordings last Spring, Constantinople was fittingly commended by Outburn for its “depressing dynamics topped by ethereal wonderment,” and called, “…a dirg-y doom crawl of an album…,” by Decibel. Pitchfork crowned it, “darkly beautiful,” while MetalSucks applauded the offering noting, “Their accretion of small musical gestures inverts metal’s normal use of space. They imply terror without ever exposing it. Each song is an accumulation of outlines, a sort of sonic daguerreotype.” Spin agreed stating, “Processional doom, ethereal female harmonies and high-strung riffs incite head-bowing, not –banging,” while About.com noted: “…a proverbial treasure chest in terms of atmosphere, ideas and contrasting musical textures…original and breathtaking.”

Ides Of Gemini Issue Tour Wrap-Up

West Coast transcendentalists, IDES OF GEMINI, recently returned from a near month-long run of European dates in support of their monumental Constantinople full-length released via Neurot Recordings earlier this year.

Relays guitarist/backing vocalist J. Bennett of the journey: “After a month of playing the various clubs, halls, pubs, squats and glorified toilets of Europe, we’re back. I think it’s safe to say that IDES OF GEMINI will never be the same. And neither will Europe, for that matter. We did something to the place, and it did something to us. There was an exchange of energy and fluids. Not with all of Europe, obviously. Just the countries we visited: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, England and the Czech Republic. Am I forgetting someplace? I hope not. I mean, how could I? The audiences were fantastic. The bands we played with were ace. The food and drink were spectacular. Even the border police were sort of cordial while they rifled through our personal belongings. We’d like to thank everyone who came to see us play and everyone who made the tour possible, especially those who put their faith in IDES OF GEMINI to deliver a night of music that was hopefully worth paying to see. We can’t wait to do it again.”

In related news, check out an exclusive interview with Bennett courtesy of Scion AV at THIS LOCATION.

Constantinople was released stateside via Neurot Recordings late this past Spring and continues to reap praise domestically and abroad. The offering was commended by Outburn in an 8/10 review for its “depressing dynamics topped by ethereal wonderment,” and called“…a dirg-y doom crawl of an album…” by Decibel. Pitchfork dubbed it, “darkly beautiful,” while MetalSucks added, “Their accretion of small musical gestures inverts metal’s normal use of space. They imply terror without ever exposing it. Commended by Outburn in an 8/10 review for its “depressing dynamics topped by ethereal wonderment,” Constantinople was released stateside via Neurot Recordings late this Spring and continues to reap critical accolades from fans and critics alike. A collusion of musical forces precipitated by the haunting and inimitable vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms (Black Math Horseman), IDES OF GEMINI paint dark black tapestries of sound that are at once delicate and menacing.

“…a dirg-y doom crawl of an album…” – Decibel

“Processional doom, ethereal female harmonies and high-strung riffs incite head-bowing, not -banging.” – Spin

IDES OF GEMINI perceptively balance subtlety with dexterity, appreciating that music with this much emotive potential requires poise and sagacity. “ – Hellbound

“…darkly beautiful…” – Pitchfork

“…haunting and intriguing…” – The 1st Five

“…a proverbial treasure chest in terms of atmosphere, ideas and contrasting musical textures…original and breathtaking.” – About.com

“Their accretion of small musical gestures inverts metal’s normal use of space. They imply terror without ever exposing it. Each song is an accumulation of outlines, a sort of sonic daguerreotype.” – MetalSucks

“…music that calls to mind deserts and tundras, angry ghosts emerging from the ether.” – RVA Mag

“Whereas Black Math Horseman makes you feel as if you’ve taken a wrong turn into a desolate medieval village, illuminated by the flicker of mere lanterns, IDES OF GEMINI hovers above complete darkness in a realm that can only be felt by those who welcome it.” – This Is Not A Scene

Ides Of Gemini Announce Listening Party

Today and throughout the week AOL Spinner will be hosting an exclusive IDES OF GEMINI listening party where fans can check out the band’s forthcoming full-length, Constantinople, in its entirety! The latest studio offering from the West Coast cerebral doom mystics is set for North American release via Neurot Recordings on May 29, 2012, just one week from tomorrow. Called “darkly beautiful” by Pitchfork and a “dirg-y doom crawl of an album” by Decibel, the nine-track Constantinople was produced by IDES OF GEMINI and engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Skeletonwitch) at Sunset Lodge Recording in Los Angeles.

Check it out in all its transcendental brilliance HERE.

Following their official record release show on May 29 at the Bootleg Theatre in Los Angeles, IDES OF GEMINI will douse the ears of revelers at the Scion Rock Fest with their shadowy tunes on June 2 at The Czar Bar  in Tampa, Florida. The band will appear alongside the likes of Sleep, Merzbow, Church of Misery, All Pigs Must Die and more!

IDES OF GEMINI is a collusion of musical forces precipitated by the haunting and inimitable vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of Los Angeles dark-psych alchemists Black Math Horseman. The compositions are the long-simmering mental fallout of veteran music and film journalist J. Bennett (guitar/backing vocals), who has spent most of the last 14 years writing for such publications as Decibel, Terrorizer, Revolver, Alternative Press and Thrasher. The third and final corner of the triangle is Kelly Johnston, whose martial drumming techniques and soaring backing vocals literally brought IDES OF GEMINI to life as a performing entity.

Pre-orders of Constantinople are currently available at the Neurot Recordings Store.

Ides Of Gemini: Exclusive Track Premiere By The Obelisk

Today heavy riff portal The Obelisk offers up a stream of "Slain In Spirit" from mystical doom conjurers IDES OF GEMINI. The song comes off of the West Coast trio’s forthcoming new studio offering, Constantinople, set for North American release via Neurot Recordings on May 29, 2012.

Notes guitarist/backing vocalist J. Bennett of the track: “‘Slain In Spirit’ might be the only IDES OF GEMINI song -- so far -- that actually addresses lyrically what we try to accomplish sonically: The trance state. The state of being neither here nor there. If that's not pretentious enough for you, try this: Idris Parry, the late, great scholar of German literature, once pointed out that just as there are gaps between the fingers, there are gaps between the senses. ‘In these gaps,’ he said, ‘is the darkness which hides the connection between all things.’ As much as ‘Slain In Spirit’ is a song easily and obviously discernible by the human ear, it very much aspires to create something that at least hints at that intangible darkness.”

Turn up and tune out at THIS LOCATION.

Exclusive pre-orders of Constantinople are currently available through the IDES OF GEMINI blog. Limited to just 33 CDs, each pre-order will be bundled with stickers and a handmade candle made by vocalist Sera Timms, meant to be burned while the album plays for maximum atmosphere. In three of those candles will be a crystal that can be retrieved by burning the candle most of the way down. The crystal can then be mailed back to the band and exchanged for a Disruption Writ EP, cassette and one other exclusive item still to be announced.

IDES OF GEMINI will take their brooding hymns to the stage to the stage tomorrow on the Los Angeles stop of the long-anticipated Decibel Magazine Tour with Behemoth, Watain, The Devil’s Blood and In Solitude. In addition, the band has been officially added to this year’s edition of the Scion Rock Fest, set to take place at the Ritz Theatre in Tampa, Florida. IDES OF GEMINI will appear alongside the likes of Sleep, Merzbow, Church of Misery, All Pigs Must Die and more!

“…darkly beautiful…” -- Pitchfork

“Sera Timms’ voice is a national treasure. It’s a reverb-soaked choir of 4AD ghosts floating over scratchy guitars. Burzum scoring a spaghetti western. This stuff gives me chills.” – Decibel
