The Body: Video Documents Mass Suicide Aftermath

Deep in the rural vastness of the upper Northeastern region of the country, white birch and conifer bodies now mournfully envelop a most gruesome landscape. The crime lab sorts through the aftermath of the heinous ritual which ensued on this property the previous evening -- an abhorrent mass suicide, likely devout to a faction, cause, or reasoning experts have not yet been able to establish.

As captured by those first on the scene, this appalling footage has been accompanied with the endtime preachings of none other than THE BODY, perpetrators of this atrocity, with coercion and guidance from thee director, Richard Rankin.

Witness these atrocities for yourself THROUGH THIS PORTAL TO NOISEY/VICE.

Master, We Perish was captured at Providence, Rhode Island-based Machines With Magnets (Battles, Daughters, Lightning Bolt, Chinese Stars). Blackened bursts of noise-drenched, low-fi doom are fueled by percussionist Lee Buford’s hypnotic, tribal rhythms via thunderous macaroni drums, the melee infiltrated by guitarist/vocalist Chip King’s penetrating vocal screech. The clan also recruited Leslie Weitz (Otesanek), Chrissy Wolpert (Assembly Of Light Choir) and Reba Mitchell (Whore Paint) for vocal contributions throughout the torrid endeavor adding an array of eerie dynamics to the songs. THE BODY will unleash Master, We Perish as a 12” EP, CDEP, cassette and digital download on April 30th once again via At A Loss Recordings. Preorders can be placed here.

The Body Preaches End-Time Sermon Through New Hymn

Even though recent warnings of new hymns from apocalyptic sludge ministers THE BODY have been released, you have failed to listen and repent, and now it appears it’s too late, as today the first of three new orations has been revealed.

The prophetic new hymnal from THE BODY, Master, We Perish is a three-song prelude to mankind’s demise, a message which can be felt firsthand with the opening mantra, “The Ebb And Flow Of Tides In A Sea Of Ash.” The distressing wail of an air-raid siren barely has time to sound before the listener is inundated in the oppressive surge of THE BODY’s patented form of primal, anti-life worship.

Find yourself washing upon dead shores of a blackened land in “The Ebb And Flow Of Tides In A Sea Of Ash” now through Pitchfork.

Burnt Books April Tour Actions Confirmed

As their most recent rampage of live actions through the Southeast US is wrapping up this week, punkmanglers BURNT BOOKS confirm a new batch of April shows throughout Florida and their home state of South Carolina.

Featuring a cast of locals who have done time in Guyana Punch Line, Thank God, .fuckingcom, Tunguska and more, BURNT BOOKS’ smoldering message has been spread over recent months due to their heavy touring in support of their self-titled debut, released in late January via At A Loss Recordings. The frenetic energy of the quintet’s live shows carries through on the album, the whirlwind of eclectic punk, angular post-hardcore riffage and noise rock elements infiltrated by elements of artistic Americana where mangled, wailing and mocking vocals coalesce with angst-ridden guitars and even banjo segments. Burnt Books was captured at The Jam Room with Phillip Cope (Kylesa, Baroness, Dark Castle) and mastered by Colling Jordan (YOB, Twilight).

Click here to listen to all of Burnt Books at Invisible Oranges.

BURNT BOOKS Live Actions:

3/24/2013 The Farm - Athens, GA w/ Shaved Christ, Iron Lung

4/03/2013 Tin Roof - Charleston, SC

4/04/2013 1982 - Gainesville, FL

4/05/2013 Hold Tight House - Tampa, FL

4/06/2013 Churchill’s Pub - Miami, FL

4/07/2013 Will’s Pub - Orlando, FL

4/11/2013 New Brookland Tavern - Columbia, SC

4/12/2013 The Radio Room - Greenville, SC

4/19/2013 Hunter Gatherer - Columbia, SC

Review copies of Burnt Books and coverage of the band are available now worldwide via The Earsplit Compound.

"This is a very promising starting point for Burnt Books. Chaotic hardcore riffage, quirky vocals and banjos are a match made in heaven apparently...a complete mind eradicator in the best possible way. 9/10" - American Aftermath

"...a searing experiment in the fusion of noise, hardcore and punk. While the instrumentation is wild and rollicking — the familiar energy of punk chords shading into an atonal frenzy — it is Zoe Lollis's vocal performance that takes centre stage. Incorporating eerie clean singing, hardcore growls, ghostly wailing and the snotty tone of schoolyard taunts, it's a nimble and varied performance that serves as the burning nucleus of the record. 8/10" - Exclaim!

"South Carolina sludge-punk crew Burnt Books take notes from bands like Mastodon, Melvins, Today is The Day, and Kylesa to form their odd and toxic brew of maleficence." - Invisible Oranges

"This debut release proves that there are still punk bands out there that not only find interesting ways to communicate their message sonically, but also lyrically, too." - Verbicide Magazine

"Everything that the band has brought to the table has given them a distinction that is desperately needed in these times of metal redundancy. In short, it should go without saying that Burnt Books has made one of the most impressive metal debuts in years." - Lithium Magazine

“ Exhilarating doesn’t even begin to describe this groups energy and technical achievements. One of the best out in 2013." - Sound Colour Vibration

"This cd is just loud in your face, then all over the place and in your face then just out of control chaos, which for this band and this lead singer fits them like a glove. 8/10" - Wicked Channel

Totimoshi Inducts New Drummer

Los Angeles-based desert rock trio TOTIMOSHI has revamped its lineup and will break in the new blood this week at a special hometown show.

Following the their latest LP, Avenger -- released in 2011 via At A Loss Recordings -- TOTIMOSHI has been on somewhat of a live hiatus for the past year or so due to the partial departure of drummer Chris Fugitt. While Chris remains in the band’s official lineup, he now lives halfway across the country, so the band’s founding members -- bassist Meg Castellanos and vocalist/guitarist Tony Aguilar -- have recruited additional drummer Derrick Hostetter in the interim. Having played and toured in Illinois punk bands in the 90’s, and having formed and played in various electronic bands in the Peoria area, Hostetter relocated to the West Coast, recording three albums with San Francisco-based band Cast Of Thousands, two records with The Bruises and Seeking Empire, as well as LA-based hardcore act Bough Breaks.

TOTIMOSHI will perform live with Derrick for the first time this Thursday, March 14th at a hometown headlining show at the Silverlake Lounge, with support from Gaytheist, Stripper Pussy and Dolphins n Shit.

TOTIMOSHI Live:

3/14/2013 Silverlake Lounge - Los Angeles, CA w/ Gaytheist, Stripper Pussy, Dolphins n Shit

At A Loss Recordings released Avenger in early 2011, followed by a vinyl pressing in early 2012. Produced by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Shrinebuilder, Tool), mastered by John Golden (Melvins, Mike Watt, OM) and includes appearances by Dale Crover (Altamont, The Melvins, Shrinebuilder), Brent Hinds (Mastodon) and Scott Kelly (Neurosis, Shrinebuilder), Avenger was championed by Rock Sound for its “smart and uniquely wonky brand of hard rock that’s sometimes bluesy, sometimes sexy, sometimes spaced out but never anything less than completely compelling,” and commended by The Obelisk for its absorbing variations, noting: “It’s dissonant but melodic, dirty and clean, noisy but engaging, structured but open.”

Stay tuned for additional TOTIMOSHI updates and show confirmations in the coming weeks.

Monarch: New European Tour Dates Begin This Week

France’s avant-garde sludge/doom artisans MONARCH embarked on a new rash of tour dates beginning this Sunday, the 10th of March in Paris. The band will trek through the UK and Ireland over the following week and a half, with a show in Belgium and a final show back in France to close down the tour.

A thirty-four minute down-tempo/down-tuned ethereal funeral dirge comprised of three tracks, MONARCH's sixth full-length Omens was released via At A Loss Recordings in February 2012, surging with the band’s caustic, trademark style of slow-motion apocalyptic doom, writhing with haunting moans and layered, ghostly shrieks. Omens was recorded over a four month period in four different countries with four different producers -- Osaka, Japan by Hironori Ochi @ Kakurega, Melbourne, Australia by Neil Thomason @ Head Gap, Montreal, Canada by Matt Cartman @ Crane Studio, and Chicago, IL by Sanford Parker @ Engine Studios -- then mixed by Sanford Parker and mastered by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room (Twilight, Ministry, Yob). The album features newest MONARCH member Rob Shaffer (Dark Castle, YOB) along with guitarist Shiran Kaïdine (Year of No Light), bassist MicHell Bidegain, and as always the ethereal, penetrating vocals of Emilie Bresson. The record also includes guest appearances by Atsuchi Sano (Birushanah), Yailen Munoz (Ensorcelor), Eric Quach (Thisquietarmy), Jeanne Peluard (The Sparteens) and Robert MacManus (ex-Grey Daturas, ex-Monarch).
