Nate Hall: U.S. Tour Dates Announced

Founding USX vocalist/guitarist NATE HALL will embark upon a very special run of U.S. tour dates later this month alongside YOB mastermind Mike Scheidt. The tour will commence on July 14 in Asheville, North Carolina and run through July 23 in Washington, DC.

HALL will be touring in support of his solo debut A Great River, released via Neurot Recordings May 8. Recorded in a single March evening, A Great River offers up a lush landscape of sonic richness and is as pure and honest as music gets. The songs are regretful of the bad times, hopeful of times to come, and respectful of the great power that causes all thing to be. Commended Decibel Magazine in an 8/10 review: “[Hall] takes to folk and country as effortlessly as the heavy stuff and the mood he captures on these 10 tracks is extraordinary,” Outburn called the record “beautifully crafted,” while Mxdwn.com opined: A Great River’s ten tracks are dark and expansive… the best kind of eerie, mixing electric and acoustic guitar so songs swirl and swell.” Creative Loafing crowned A Great River, “a strange and hopeless document, and that may be where the beauty lies,” Digital Fix agreed: “With A Great River, NATE HALL has offered up one of the most emotionally draining and honest records so far this year. A mixture of echo-drenched electric guitars and mournful acoustic weave a tapestry of forlorn, melancholic American folk music that reaches right down into the soul as Nate's rich, deep voice recites his lamentations,” while The Sleeping Shaman dubbed it “a paean to the downtrodden, delicately masked in light, well-crafted tones and passages of build and release catharsis, but it has an incredible sense of atmosphere and honesty.”

Nate Hall: Debut Solo LP From Founding USX Guitarist Out Now

A Great River, the debut solo album from doom/psyche masters USX's founding guitarist NATE HALL, is out today in North America via Neurot Recordings.

Featuring nearly forty minutes of material over ten original numbers, A Great River even further explores the lush bed of Appalachian heritage and songcraft USX has become widely popular for, yet showcases an even more folk and bluegrass influence as well as more expansive, soundscape passages. Fully envisioned and crafted by HALL himself, the album was recorded at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee by Travis Kammeyer. Here the multi-instrumentalist HALL displays his musical abilities by layering multiple styles of guitars, banjo, Theremin and all vocals, outside of keyboards courtesy of Kammeyer on two tracks, resulting in an incredible display of unique, modern Americana. A Great River can be ordered HERE.

NATE HALL will perform material from A Great River at the album's official CD release show this Saturday, May 12th in Johnson City, Tennessee, with more live performances to be announced in the weeks ahead.

"A Great River isn't so much a bold solo diversion than a natural progression of Hall's overall musical body of work. He takes to folk and country as effortlessly as the heavy stuff and the mood he captures on these 10 tracks is extraordinary... 8/10" -- Decibel

"...beautiful and lush work of a songwriter beginning what will hopefully be a long journey..." -- The Obelisk

"...if you have never longed for a life in the wilderness with nothing but the sounds of wind and trees and an occasional howl of a wolf or coyote in the background, A Great River may not be right for you. Seriously. This is a true vagabond's album if I know one." -- Sea of Tranquility

"This is the album I have been listening to daily, because with every play, I realize how killer NATE’S voice is, plus he pens some of the best lyrics, word that cut to the bone." -- Cvlt Nation

"Musically A Great River is on the complete opposite of what I usually listen to, but sometimes you come across an album that really resonates with you, regardless of genre or style. Stunning album! 8.5/10" -- This Is Not A Scene

Nate Hall: Exclusive Track Premiere Hosted By Cvlt Nation

Today Cvlt Nation is hosting an exclusive track premiere of “The Earth In One Cell” from USX mastermind NATE HALL. Following several lauded LPs released under the Neurot Recordings banner, this May the founding USX vocalist/guitarist, will release his first solo full-length entitled A Great River.

Comments Hall on the track: “’The Earth In One Cell’ has been kicking around in my brain for years before I got it right and ready to record. In a way, it was a catalyst for the whole album, because once I got it done the rest followed quickly. I used a capo on the twelfth fret of my electric guitar to get the chimey string sound. It was a natural song to start the record.”

Check out “The Earth In One Cell,” the opening track to the record, at THIS LOCATION.

Set for European release on May 7 and in North America on May 8, A Great River, which popular

rock/doom portal The Obelisk crowns a “…beautiful and lush work of a songwriter beginning what will hopefully be a long journey," offers up a lush landscape of pastoral richness. Recorded in March 2011 by Travis Kammeyer at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee, the work draws from the lush musical history of America, the melancholy of Appalachia, and harnesses the “electric vacuum roar” of guitar slingers past and present.
