Drunk Dad: New Brew From Portland Sludge Squad On Tap

As Portland’s bastardized brew crew DRUNK DAD prepares to belt the public right in the mouth with their Morbid Reality 12” via Eolian Empire on June 11th, today the enablers over at Pitchfork want you to start off the week with a total bender, cracking open a new track from the EP.

Bail early, drink on the job or do whatever you gotta’ do, but be prepared to pay DRUNK DAD the “Scum Fee” RIGHT HERE.

The band recently spilled “S.O.U.” from Eolian’s massive KEEP OUR HEADS comp available HERE.

If they weren't such dirty fuckers they'd be one of the town's shining success stories of unrelenting hard work and dedication: in a surprisingly short time DRUNK DAD went from favorite-band-shirts-on-their-hearts-on-their-sleeves to a unique and dynamic fusion of the heavy, the noisy, and the aggro, with a healthy dose of high drama, as they consistently churn out some of the most devastating live sets Portland has seen in years. Complex but in-your-face arrangements, push-pull duel-guitar interplay, searing behind-the-head leads, heavy motherfucking bass, and hard-hitting, tight, technical traps with dynamic, disturbing vocals to hold it all together evolves to ethical scumbaggery at its finest. Their first vinyl release, Morbid Reality merges off-kilter sludge/noise the Pacific Northwest perpetuates so well into a drugged-out but aggro vibe; elements of scathing crust-ish degenerate punk brutality are cold-filtered with slow-motion acerbic sludge basslines and noxious riffage with a post-Melvins experimental vibe.

DRUNK DAD is currently getting their shit together for a July tour with local brethren Big Black Cloud, and in the meantime plan on meandering around Pacific Northwest dive bars, with several June gigs locked and more shows coming together.

DRUNK DAD June Pub Crawl:

6/07/2013 Ash Street Saloon - Portland, OR w/ Rohit, Diesto, Redneck

6/21/2013 Victory Lounge - Seattle, WA w/ Terminal Fuzz Terror, Same Sex Dictator

6/22/2013 East End - Portland, OR w/ R.I.P., Terminal Fuzz Terror

Amon Amarth: Three-Part Mini Documentary Trailer Revealed

Today melodic death metal legion AMON AMARTH reveals a trailer for their forthcoming mini documentary which can be viewed at http://www.metalblade.com/amonamarth . Fittingly titled Forging Mjölnir, the short film will appear as a three-part series with each official segment slated to premiere via the band’s microsite at http://deceiver.amonamarth.com.

The Forging Mjölnir documentary comes in anticipation of AMON AMARTH’s ninth studio offering, Deceiver of the Gods. Recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, and produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage), the follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed 2011 Surtur Rising full-length delivers ten fiery battle hymns made of buzzsaw riffs and epic harmonies all driven by vocalist Johan Hegg’s commanding Viking roar and absorbing accounts of Norse crusades and treachery. Deceiver of the Gods comes adorned with another outstanding Tom Thiel-created cover portraying a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. As an added bonus, Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) makes an appearance as guest vocalist on eighth track, “Hel.”

View the black and white Forging MjöLnir trailer where the band discusses their earliest musical influences,  as well as a stream of opening title track and first single, “Deceiver of the Gods” and special preorder info at this location: http://www.metalblade.com/amonamarth.

Deceiver of the Gods will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records June 25th, in Europe June 21st/24th and Japan on June 26th.

Civil War (Ex-Sabaton) Posts New Song "First To Fight"

Civil War, the new symphonic power metal band from ex-Sabaton members, Rikard Sundén, Oskar Montelius, Daniel Mullback and Daniel Myhr, along with frontman, Nils Patrik Johansson (Astral Doors), and bass player, Stefan "Pizza" Eriksson (Volturyon), has posted the new song, "First to Fight," for streaming on YouTube at: http://youtu.be/jq43IM1DtRg.

The track originally surfaced last week via MetalUnderground.com, and comes from the band's debut full-length, The Killer Angels, out June 11 on Despotz Records.

According to the band, "First to Fight" is about an elite force that, according to some, even surpasses the U.S. Navy SEALs when it comes to tough recruitment requirements. "GROM," Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno-Manewrowego (Operational Maneuver Response Group), is a 350-man strong elite force that was formed on June 13, 1990 to protect Polish citizens from global threats.

The album was recorded by Jonas Kjellgren at Studio Myhrer (which is actually the bed and living room of keyboard player, Myhr), Black Lounge Studio and Peter Tägtgren's, The Abyss, in Pärlby, Sweden.

Artwork comes courtesy of Polish artist, Lukasz Jaszak.

Following the release of The Killer Angels, Civil War will embark on a streak of festival shows in the band's native Sweden.

Gehenna: Legal Issues Force Nihilistic Sect To Cancel Tour

Nihilistic West Coast instigators GEHENNA has been forced to postpone touring for the time being due to legal issues, forcing the legion to drop from their upcoming assault with Integrity and Full Of Hell set to begin next week.

A brief collective statement from the band reads: "Due to pressing legal matters GEHENNA will be canceling their entire U.S. tour. Once things are cleared up the tour will be rebooked. Until then check out the fully remastered and re-packaged limited edition reissue of their long out of print and critically acclaimed debut album Negotium Perambulans In Tenebris."

Writhing with thirteen hatesoaked anthems in under eighteen minutes, GEHENNA’s infamous and long out-of-print debut full-length Negotium Perambulans In Tenebris -- initially released in 2000 behind a long line of singles, EPs and various releases -- was recently reissued via A389 Records (LP) and Magic Bullet Records (CD) with a bonus track and updated/original artwork.

Unleash Negotium Perambulans In Tenebris in its timeless unrest RIGHT HERE.

Formed on the West Coast in 1993, GEHENNA quickly became a name synonymous with violence, hatred and fear. Merging elements of death, black and thrash metal, adding the unrelenting barbarism of hardcore with the “fuck off” attitude of classic punk rock, GEHENNA instantly stood out in extreme music scenes for creating their unique sound and style while living nomadic lives of crime. To protect the identity of the members of the band, who were constantly in legal trouble, the band chose to perform in pitch dark rooms and forgo ever placing the traditional band line up list or photos on releases. This also kept the band shrouded in mystery, their lyrical content ranging from warfare and drug addiction to anti-establishment and anti-religious themes. Members of the faction have also been in bands such as Bludgeon, Sangraal, M.F.T.S., Witch-Lord, Discreet Doll Band, Devil, Penetration Panthers, Witch-Cat, Lesser Key, Parallel Hells and many more. All of those bands as well as GEHENNA have been independent and will continue to stay independent.

A Pale Horse Named Death Lay My Soul To Waste Out Tomorrow

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH will release their sophomore album Lay My Soul to Waste tomorrow in North America on Steamhammer/SPV. Once again the artwork was commissioned by Sam Shearon, who is also responsible for artwork on the band's first release And Hell Will Follow Me

Today APHND is giving fans a chance to check out one more song from this blistering new album.  Bloody Disgusting, the home for all things horror is hosting an exclusive premiere of the song "In the Sleeping Death" HERE

The band has already released theee tracks from Lay My Soul to Waste. "Killer By Night" is available for streaming HERE , "Shallow Grave" can be heard HERE and "The Needle in You" can be heard HERE

On the surface, A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH are impressive. But you'll want to dig deeper and immerse yourself in all the sonic and lyrical layers, because the band isn't afraid to plume the depths of darkness that humanity is capable of.  It's murky stuff, but someone has to do it.

Sal Abruscato and Matt Brown have followed 2011's incredible introduction And Hell Will Follow Me with Lay My Soul to Waste, which keeps the band's patented signature formula of slow, deliberate sludge and head-down doom intact and as flawlessly executed as ever.

Think Alice in Chains, only harder, angrier and with a more perverse view of the world, as if they were reared in a row house in Bensonhurst, as opposed to the rainy landscape of Seattle, all the while feasting on a steady diet of Black Sabbath records.

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH arrived with And Hell Will Follow Me. They have firmly implanted their roots in the metal scene with Lay My Soul to Waste. It's a metal album that headbangers who enjoy a walk on the darker side of life will end up revering and responding to.

Lay My Soul to Waste can be ordered on Amazon on both CD and LP and digitally via iTunes.

Lay My Soul to Waste Tracklisting:

1) Lay My Soul to Waste

2) Shallow Grave

3) The Needle in You

4) In the Sleeping Death

5) Killer by Night

6) Growing Old

7) Dead of Winter
