Why did I make this list? I want to make a point. Good names are still available. If you have enough imagination to create music that will make you famous, you will have enough imagination to come up with a good original band name. In the early 90's there was two Metal bands called Vengeance. They almost went to a bitter court battle fighting over who had the rights to the name. One of the bands just added the word Rising and they called it good. Now I hear there is another band trying to grab the name again. They obviously never did any research. In the 90's I played a video by a band called God Machine like crazy, interviewed the band, and they had fans worldwide because of a major push. Ten years later a local band tried to use the name. People constantly told them about the other band, but they would only respond with "Fuck those guys". I think it really hurt the band because they were pretty good other than having a horrid name that caused them tons of brand confusion.
Your band name is important. It is worth making sure it is a name you will not regret months after. Take one of these or make up your own, but do your research!
When you pick a name remember that you cannot copyright a name, such as a band name, or a phrase, or a title. You CAN "trademark" them! And you SHOULD before you announce the new name! [YOU want to own the name of your group [or product] Go to this link: http://www.uspto.gov/ The middle column [trademarks] you'll see "Search Marks..." -... there's your start... See if someone has your name!
1. Burn The Sun There is a band in Poland, but they haven't logged into their MySpace in over a year. So they can be considered broke up and in active. Plus, they are unsigned and in another country.
2. Sins Of Aken No band at all found worldwide. Aken is the feryman. The chief deity in Egyptian mythology, Ra, when considered as a sun god, was thought to traverse the daytime sky in a boat, and cross the underworld at night in another one, named Meseket. As the mythology developed, so did the idea that the boat Meseket was controlled by a separate ferryman, who became known as Aken.
