Why did I make this list? I want to make a point. Good names are still available. If you have enough imagination to create music that will make you famous, you will have enough imagination to come up with a good original band name. In the early 90's there was two Metal bands called Vengeance. They almost went to a bitter court battle fighting over who had the rights to the name. One of the bands just added the word Rising and they called it good. Now I hear there is another band trying to grab the name again. They obviously never did any research. In the 90's I played a video by a band called God Machine like crazy, interviewed the band, and they had fans worldwide because of a major push. Ten years later a local band tried to use the name. People constantly told them about the other band, but they would only respond with "Fuck those guys". I think it really hurt the band because they were pretty good other than having a horrid name that caused them tons of brand confusion.
Your band name is important. It is worth making sure it is a name you will not regret months after. Take one of these or make up your own, but do your research!
When you pick a name remember that you cannot copyright a name, such as a band name, or a phrase, or a title. You CAN "trademark" them! And you SHOULD before you announce the new name! [YOU want to own the name of your group [or product]
Go to this link: http://www.uspto.gov/ The middle column [trademarks] you'll see "Search Marks..." -... there's your start... See if someone has your name!
1. Burn The Sun
There is a band in Poland, but they haven't logged into their MySpace in over a year. So they can be considered broke up and in active. Plus, they are unsigned and in another country.
2. Sins Of Aken
No band at all found worldwide. Aken is the feryman. The chief deity in Egyptian mythology, Ra, when considered as a sun god, was thought to traverse the daytime sky in a boat, and cross the underworld at night in another one, named Meseket. As the mythology developed, so did the idea that the boat Meseket was controlled by a separate ferryman, who became known as Aken.
3. Goat Zombie
I could not find anyone who currently uses this name. Bondage Goat Zombie is the seventh studio album by the Austrian blackened death metal band Belphegor.
As in Johnny Marcone. He is a mob boss in The Dresden Files book series. In his organization adults are 100% fair game, but many of his crew have “disappeared” after hurting children in any way.
5. Devils Revelation
I could not find any band with this name
6. Severed Child
I could not find any band with this name. It is inspired by the book His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. It is what happens in the book when a child is severed from their soul (Called
Dæmon in the book)
7. Subtle Knife
I could not find any bands with this name at all. This is also inspired by His Dark Materials. It is the title of the second book in the trilogy and is a tool that can create windows between worlds and can cut easily through anything.
Latin for "things to be corrected" Unsigned band out of Palm Bay, Florida. They are unsigned and their Pure Volume page hasn't been active in half a decade.
9. Human Ritual
A band had the name, but they broke up almost a decade ago and were not very active when they were together.
10. Blood Lake Ritual
I made this up. There is no reference and there is no band with this name as far as I could find.
11. Echoes Of The Damned
No band I could find using this name at this time.
12. Burn Your Soul
No band I could find using this name at this time.
13. Dead Peasants
No active band I could find. This is the term for employees of large company's that die. It is the term used when the company cashes in on their death due to an insurance claim large companies take out on lower level employees. This is the term found on the actual insurance claim. Those employees are in fact, officially nothing more than dead peasants.
14. Battle Scar Burning
No reference. Heard someone say something about battle scar and thought it would be a good band name. Looked around and couldn't find a band with the name.
15. Thematic Scream
Some R&B band has a MySpace page, but it looks pretty deserted and the band seems to have never been very active at all. It means
of or pertaining to a theme.
16. Achromatic Kabal
Achromatic means without color. Cabal is a group of people united in some design, often secretively. The name means nothing and I made it up.
A group of trained or otherwise qualified personnel capable of forming, training, or leading an expanded organization, as a religious or political faction, or a skilled work force. There was an unsigned Christian Folk band out of Houston, but I see no activity since mid-2010.
of or pertaining to the mind. There was a band out of California, but their web pages have been inactive for over a year as far as I can tell.
19. Eternal Carnage
Used a Metal band Name Generator. Researched around and no band I could find with this name.
20. Chaotic Scorn
Again I cheated and used a band name generator.
