The one thing that bugs me about Metal Mind Productions (the only thing since they pretty much kick ass) is that they are made for Europeans and just sent to America. There are too many times that the band is speaking some foreign language that I don’t understand. The songs from Acid Drinkers are done in English as far as I can tell, but this might be what kept me from ever sticking in their first DVD after I wrote the review. The band has this great blend of party stoner rock and old school punk. In many ways they remind me of bands like D.R.I., S.O.D., & even Murphy’s Law at times. The band doesn’t seem to take themselves serious at all and is just out to have a good time, but still play some well done old school crossover. Since I only own these two DVDs, I have no idea if the band is ‘rocking the hits’ or if there are some old classics dug up to make it special. I can only judge this face value. With that in mind I do like it.

The production of course is way above what is expected in the underground metal scene. It is stunning visually, has some of the most tasteful camera work, and the sound is as clear as any live album you might pick up. I have a feeling this was recorded at some festival because the crowd looks pretty damn huge. Unless this is another band that broke huge everywhere but here (Lordi is a perfect example of this). So this is a way for us Americans to get a front row seat of a full stage production on an Acid Drinkers show without paying for plane tickets. The only issue I have is that there is no closed caption. Not only would that fill us in on what the on stage banter is, but also give us a nice little sing along feature on what must be some pretty entertaining lyrics. For these reasons, I think the closed caption feature would not only enhance the band’s performance, but also help break them here in the states. I mean without the closed caption, every single interview, documentary, or other extra is pretty much useless to anyone on this side of the pond.

So who should buy this thing? Well, what would you think of a band that mixes the old school crossover style with the more doomy stoner rock bands? This band is really great at what they do and makes me dream of the days when I could walk into the locally owned cd shop and find entire collections for sale at $7 a piece. They have $12 albums out, so that would be the only way I could afford to play catch up. “Human Bazooka”, “Slow & Stoned”, “High Proof Cosmic”, “The Joker”, & “Fuck The Violence” are the only songs on both discs. The band still picks some twisted shit to cover as well. I could never imagined the Cash classic “Ring Of Fire” done just that way. It was beautiful. This thing did Rock My Monkey, but due to the language barrier I don’t know how many times I will be putting this one back in after this review is posted.
