Just looking at the cover of this DVD is got a bad feeling. The cover is about as generic as it gets with its bland black and white cover of the geeky looking host. I start the DVD and am disappointed to find that my only options are “TV Party”, the meat of the disc, and “Extras” which I’ll come back to later.

The TV party is what seems to be a public access show based in New York City filmed in a studio in 1978. It starts out with some really bad stand up comedy by the host and then proceeds onto a guy with a guitar singing what is supposed to pass off as comedy. The people hanging around during filming seemed amused. Must be a 1978 thing. Next up is the host interviewing some whacko who created his own religion. They never land on one subject to discuss and we’ll never know what his religion is about. Hell I know I haven’t been watching for more than fifteen or twenty minutes and I want to kill myself. The next segment is a mystery. It seems to be a guy strumming his guitar, possibly in a studio, but the contrast is so bright that I never really figured out what was going on. Ok now I perk up a little. The host introduces Fred from the B-52’s. Not that I like the B-52’s, I’m just happy to see something even vaguely familiar. I’m expecting an interview but what I get is Fred reading some of his high school poetry. It’s absolutely horrible! To make it worse, during part of the segment there are video problems. Probably because they were fucking with the camera while trying to get some special effects to work. Next up is a white guy singing reggae music. ‘Nuff said ! The host talks to some people on the phone, including Chris from Blondie. All of this horrible shit goes on for what seems like forever. By the time it was over I was bleeding from every orifice. Aw shit, I still have to check out the Extras.

The Extras and just segments from other episodes. Some are interviews while others are musicians doing their thing. The choices are John Lurie, “Skylab” – Walter Steding, David Walter McDermott, Kate Simon & Mick Jones and finally Glenn on Sub-Realism which you can only imaging how bad this is. I couldn’t bring myself to watch it.

All I can say is RUN, RUN FAST AND FAR AWAY!
