Every once in a while, I will come across an album that changes how I listen to music. The opening sentence applys to Moonspell's "Night Eternal", in more ways than one. First, I will bring up the production quality, which is above and beyond what I have heard in the last 8 years. The vocals, guitar, bass, drum, etc. are all arranged in such a way that you would think Mozart's corpse had risen to assist in the studio. Honestly, I can't get over this album. It is truly amazing! I could go on and on about it and get nowhere. The guitar arrangements were well chosen from every chord all the way down to the guitar tone itself. Every little cymbal crash and splash seems as if it had some mathematical formula placed behind it for extra precision. Vocally, this album is very strong, with every word spoken as if from the center of its own small universe and every composed peice of music floating around in orbital bliss. This is a type of master piece that doesn't come by very often. I highly doubt this album will ever leave my blackberry. I have listened to it 4 times in a row without there being a dull moment. You could go as far as saying it is the sound track in my life at the moment. I can't even write a review about "Night Eternal" without listening to it. Believe me, I tried. I'm very pleased with saving this promo to review last, otherwise all the other promos may have had a harder time passing by my judgement. For those of you reading this that didn't know. The first two singles from this album are the title track "Night Eternal" and "Scorpion Flower". The reason I mention this is because I feel those two songs are excellent but that they don't sell the album. The album should be listened to entirely. I do have my favorite tracks from "Night Eternal". My favorite by far is "Dreamless (Lucifer and Lilith) a very dark and haunting song. I honestly I think it is quite a beautiful song. I can feel the anger in "Shadow Sun". The way vocalist Fernando Ribeiro takes command of the microphone is just beyond anything. Then we come to the final track on the standard release "First Flight" The erie and oprah like vocals in the background just make this closing track amazing. I know if I can catch Moonspell in the states, I will not hesitate to see them. If they can deliver live what they can deliver in the studio; I might deliver in my pants because that would be the pinnacle of my ears. When this album was over I felt thirsty for more, but at the same time I felt completly satisfied. I would highly recommend others who have heard of Moonspell and have not given them a spin to do so now. I know I'm going to go after the gold and find out where I can get a copy of the limited edition "Night Eternal". In the end it overdosed my monkey. When it came to, it was as if he had been wondering off banging herion in a alley. I will not hesitate recommending this peice of gold to all my friends. ![]()
