I want to start out this review talking about what is done right, because there is more done right with this cd than is wrong. The songwriting is great. For an industrial release this is one of the best written releases I have heard in a long while. The performances are exceptional. In fact I have not heard an artist with so much potential since I first heard a cd called Pretty Hate Machine in the very early 90's. Some of the lyrics lose something in the poetic delivery because the person who wrote them is so overly passionate about the message. At times the message seems more important than anything else. At times this can be a good thing. How often nowadays do we get an artist that is truly passionate about what they are singing? It is rare, so it is refreshing to me even when I highly disagree with what is being said.

His vocal style is similar to that of early 90's industrial and is also done very well. He may not have the best range, but he does really well with what he does have. The foundation of industrial is techno. Let's face it, industrial music as it is known today is just techno with guitars. Well, the techno element here is about as strong as I ever would want it. This leads me to where I talk about what is wrong with this cd. The production is horrid under today's standards. The amount of compression used here is absolutely atrocious. This thing could have been so much more visceral if they tossed out the damn compression. The guitars should have been louder in the mix. It sounds like someone just set the dials at one spot and left them there. Of course that could have been the insane amount of compression. Now these things don't totally ruin the cd, but if these things were fixed in a remix it would be awesome! My wife pointed out to me that the first several lines of "The Waiting" are taken from the first few lines of the Prince classic "Let's Go Crazy". So my question is, why take just a few lines? Why not just cover the whole song? Or make up a whole new song? Why just take a few lines? It just sounds strange to me. I would love to hear this guy do a full cover of "Let's Go Crazy" though. Something tells me he would do an amazing rendition.

Did this Rock My Monkey? I do like it, but this cd could have been in my top ten for the year if it was better produced. Someone call Neil Kernon, Klayton, or even Peter Tägtgren and have them remix this thing.
