So this band is pretty much in the style of Creed or Nickleback. So if you love that style then keep reading. If you hate that style then move onto another article from this site. We cover everything from the most evil grind to...well, this kind of stuff. Now some may wonder why we cover this kind of stuff. Well, I am a poser and I indeed suck. Seriously, I may listen to mostly old school traditional thrash but I also have always been a sucker for a well done pop tune. This band is still rock, and rock is this site’s first name. Before anyone asks, yes we will review your monkey too. Just mail it to the P.O. Box in our contact section. Make sure there is enough food so the poor thing doesn't die before we get to it. Now enough of this foolishness. Onto the music. The one problem many have with this style is that every song sounds so much the same. If you have heard one song you have heard them all. Well, this band falls victim to that as well. There is not a ton of diversity here either. Just like with Creed and Nickleback though, what they have here is very well done. They do have a few songs that do stand out in the mix though. If this had a different track listing that showcased the band's diversity more it would have improved at least the first half of the disc. Since most do not listen past the first few songs of a cd, it would have served the band immensely. "Anger Cage" is a great song to start with and a great single, but I would have made "Time Is Slipping Away" as the second song. It is the fastest paced song on the cd and would make a great contrast to "Anger Cage" and any song that comes after it. It would also make for a great second single. For the third song on the cd I would use the song "Gone". Since it is a full on ballad the contrast between it and "Time Is Slipping Away" would highlight the diversity this cd does have. Then I would put anything except "How Great You Are". Not that it is a bad song. It just sounds too close to "Gone" and those two songs should be kept as far apart as possible. "World At War" would make a great choice since it is the second heaviest song on the cd. Again, this is to highlight the best contrast the cd has to offer. Now other than that it doesn't matter. Most either won't pay attention or will already love the band enough to not care. Speaking of no one paying attention, the chances the cd will be re-tracked because I offered the idea in this review is pretty much slim and none. This just gave me an approach to this review that I thought some might find interesting. So did this Rock My Monkey? Well, like Creed and Nickleback I would never buy this cd if it wasn't sent to me. In fact the chances of me listening to this much after this review are pretty slim. I enjoyed it while listening to it to prepare for my interview with the band's singer and I enjoyed it while listening to it for this review. In the grand scheme of things it just doesn't have strong enough hooks to grab me as much as many other cds in my collection. It is a good solid release, but it just isn't that ground breaking. Next time give me more hooks and pick up the tempo on a few more songs. You only need one mellow tune for the single after all. ![]()
