Cradle of Filth Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa Review

Cradle of Filth Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa Review

click to enlargeAh yes, Cradle Of Filth. The most mocked Black Metal band in history. Just like any other highly mocked bands, it is what the fans love that makes others mock them. So let's look at the music and forget about all the jokes one can make about Dani And The Filth Tones. The reality is that I have always loved the music of Cradle Of Filth. He orchestral compositions are as rich and full of depth as any high budget horror movie score. One of the things I think that get Dani mocked so much in the Metal world is that he doesn't seem too worried about trying to be the most "brootal", but instead puts a more artistic spin on his vocals. Instead he comes off like that evil little kid who gives you a cute little grin that is void of any childlike innocence and shows up later in your nightmares.

I have listened to this cd more times than I can count because I haven't had time to change the music on my portable music player for awhile. So if I wanted to listen to music it was one of the few albums waiting to be reviewed on these pages. I'm not sure if it is the fact that I have repeated this collection of songs ad nauseam, but this sounds like one of the better produced releases from this band. Dani uses several different voices to make sure the listener doesn't get bored. Mock him all you want, but the guy avoid the monotone feel of the majority of bands that everyone else raves about here.

click to enlargeMaybe it is the new guitarist? Maybe it is the new keyboard player? Maybe it is being on Nuclear Blast (in America) knowing that the band will get a fair shake for a change in the promotion department? For whatever reason the band seems to be more inspired this time around. Between the better writing and the production here, even the blast beats sound better than they do most of the time. Will I listen to this cd again after this review is posted? Probably not since it is not my favorite style of Metal. However, this thing does offer such a great vibe of energy when I'm at work I just might keep it within reach. I do however highly recommend it to anyone who demands more from their extreme Metal. Mock Cradle Of Filth all you want, but they did an amazing job this time around. They deserve an honest listen from you before you dismiss them just because they aren't the standard knuckle dragging tough guy bands you normally listen to. This is not about proving what a bad ass you are. This is about well crated music.
